Hi Fran - I have a strong feeling that your Luke Cunningham would have been a brother of James Cunningham, who was born ca.1788 in Co.Westmeath, convicted in Co.Meath 27/02/1838, and transported to Australia. One of James' sons was also named Luke, and remained in Ireland after James' wife, Margaret Hogg, and some of his children joined him in 1849. James died 1866. I haven't got into any Irish research on the Cunninghams up to this time, but will keep your post on file, and will be sure to let you know if I turn up anything relevant.
