    3. Thanks to all who responded to my query. I realized my error and figured out that Greenstown was actually Queenstown, which led to the discovery of the manifest on the Ellis Island site. There are a few good late 1800's photos of Queenstown posted on the net, search google if interested. Thanks again and good luck in your searches. > > >----- Original Message ----- > > >From: Jil E <[email protected]> > > >To: <[email protected]> > > >Sent: Saturday, April 28, 2001 7:23 AM > > >Subject: [Irl-Westmeath] Sailing from Greenstown? > > > > > > > > > > I have a copy of a ships manifest that we believe carried our >ancestors > > >from > > > > Westmeath. 3. I also got through this past weekend in the wee hours of the morning. You almost need to view every hit. I found my family but had first overlooked them since their orgination was listed as Dilain, which was mis-transcribed from Delvin. Keep trying, it's worth it. For those that are not aware, you can also narrow your search by selecting items from the left after initially getting the results of a name search. You can narrow it down by arrival date, departure location, etc, and expand the search by selecting spelling variations of the last name in case it was transcribed incorrectly. The best of all of course, is seeing the scan of the original manifest. If you select enlarge, you can download the image by right clicking it and saving to file. Good luck! >From: [email protected] >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [Irl-Westmeath] Ellis Island >Date: Mon, 30 Apr 2001 00:48:05 EDT > >Here's the address to the Ellis Island site: >http://www.ellisislandrecords.org >Jane > > >============================== >Create a FREE family website at MyFamily.com! >http://www.myfamily.com/banner.asp?ID=RWLIST2 > _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

    2. Congratulations, Jane, that is really good news! Encouraged by your success I tried yet again, and was at least able to register, and to access the listings for 3 spelling variations. Though I was only able to get to two individual records, I know now what is possible, and may set my alarm for the wee hours. Thanks so much for letting us know. Marybeth Tormey Stevens

    2. I finally got on the Ellis Island site and found my grandmother's arrival after only one hour of searching. This is something I've been looking for, via LDS films, for the last 10 years!! Plus, after doing major research in Ireland I was still missing one of her brothers. I put his name in the Search and guess what! I found him arriving here, too! I'm ecstatic! Jane

    2. Hi Jackie, I've searched thru all my stuff and didn't find any Hardiman's, sorry. Is the other Barry researcher out there by you? Do you happen to know anything about the names they're looking for? Maybe we could help one another. I don't have a lot on my Barrys but I'm willing to share what I have. I don't even know where they're from in Ireland, and I think they came to the US about 1840+. I know they ended up in Wisconsin, then some of them came to Los Angeles about 1900. Jane

    3. Charlotte.....although the Ellis Island records are too "recent" for my research, I nevertheless went into them earlier today and could find no lists....blank pages......do you know what the trouble is....may I assume that they are up-dating the pages......? Also for anyone interested......off the top of my head I can't give you the name but there's a university in PA.....a fellow there is indexing the passenger lists...beginning with the ending of the Famine Immigrants - and at my last use, he was up to 1863 or 65. There's a CD out at the moment.... the LDS has it. Just re-read your e-mail and to be sure that we are talking about the same Oldcastle......the one I'm working in is between Castlepollard and Mountnugent......Castlepollard in Westmeanth and Mountnugent in Co.Cavan. 3. There is a RC church in Oldcastle and I'm almost positive it is called St. Bridgets...... Oldcastle is in Co.Meath but very close to the border of Westmeath...one goes from one county into the other without even realizing it. Besides the Catholic church there is/was also a Methodist Church and a Church of Ireland which I think is closed.....there is one graveyard...and one very old graveyard but I can't give you any details on it. I am working on lines in the area......so if you come across any ancestors with the name Caven/Kevin or (O)Donoghue/Donahue/Donahoo/etc, or Gammell do get back to me. The Caven/Kevin and Donoghue lines are from the townlands of Hammondstown and Hilltown. Oldcastle is a very nice little town....old market town.....really off the beaten track. If you go there do get back to me...... Keep in touch we may be able to help each other out.
