Eileen, Just another reason I've been scared away from the heritage center. The records I have from Delvin my Aunt got there on a visit (I will try contacting her again about specifics of the response she got from the parish and how complete the records were - it was many years ago). Having the photocopy of the actual record has been invaluable. Many things like witnesses to the childrens baptism and the names of the wedding couples fathers have send me on leads I may never have otherwise taken. Thanks for the information!! >From: "Eileen Montalbano" <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: Re: [Irl-Westmeath] Byrne, Formey, Mangan >Date: Thu, 14 Jun 2001 07:16:54 -0400 > >Jane, > >I too got information from Dunna Si Heritage Center. Jane, I too got information from Dunna Si Heritage Center. They found marriage records in Delvin of my ancestors CAREY, HINCH, KEOGHAN. However, they did not submit where they got the records or what church they were married in. Just the names and the dates. That's it!! So, for the $$$ I would of liked to know the full BASICS. Marybeth, Where did your records from Delvin come from? Was it the Catholic Church? Do you know if they have any missing dates in their registers? Have you used the Dunna Si Heritage Center? Sorry about all the questions but it looks like I might be moving my search from the Castlepollard area to the Delvin area and I'll need all the help I can get. Thank you, Jane in CA
Apologies list - Pat, I tried sending you this directly but it rejected my email address. Patrick and Bridget are my great grandparents. Is your family connected or were you just recording any Murtaghs that you may have found? I have not personally tried Delvin parish. The records I have were from my Aunt who visited there many years ago. I just recently tried contacting her to specifically ask her how long and how detailed her search was. I have not heard back from her yet but if I get any information I will let you know. I have not yet tried contacting the parish directly but plan on writing a letter with a donation. I was hoping to find their records are somewhat complete as this was my famillies parish for quite a long time (Patrick's and Bridget's fathers are in Griffiths as living in Ballynaskeagh in 1854). I'm very disappointed to hear you tried the heritage center with no success. That tells me a letter will probably get less results. I do have the baptismal records of some of the children and the marriage record of Patrick and Bridget. Looking forward to hearing from you. Marybeth, You're right! When I checked photocopies of some of the original records I have, the way the handwriting is, the name I thought was Formey could indeed be Tormey. My Grandparents Thomas Connell and Mary Wallace came from neighbouring towns in Westmeath- his parents were Catherine Maher and Patrick Connell hers were Peter Wallace and Mary Donoghue . I know that the Wallace family lived at Coolnahay,Slanemore,Mullingar,County Westmeath Ireland. My Grandparents are known to have met on the ship to Australia. It is known that two brothers of Mary Wallace also emigrated one to Canada and the other settled in Western Australia one I believe was a Doctor and the other a Dentist. I have no knowledge of the ship they arrived here on and have had no success with records. Would Mary and her brother both be listed? I have no knowledge of the year they sailed but know my g-parents married here in 1894. Can anyone tell me how to proceed Thanks, Judith _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

Please enter Margaret MC CORMACK married to Michael O'ROURKE. Their son Michael, my grandfather, was born in Ireland 1845-55. He is in Brooklyn by 1861. Rita
Hi Rita and others; I have a Bernard ROAN or ROWAN who lived around Rochfortbridge (Farthingstown area) in Westmeath. He came to America around 1850. He may have come with an uncle, John ROAN. He settled back-and-forth between Brooklyn, NY and Rahway, NJ. Bernard's daughter: Maggie ROAN married a Hugh Roark (Rourke/O'Rourke, etc.). I keep finding the Rourke family living near to the ROAN's in the 1850's and 1860's. There may be a connection. Hi Ann, I also have Owens in my family. My g grandfather was Thomas Owens and he was married twice. Once to Kate (C or K?)Katherine Carney in 1860 and then she died in 1870. They had two children by this first marriage my grandmother Isabella Owens and a sister Annie Owens. Thomas Owens married again on Nov. 10th 1872, at St. Joseph's Church in Willimantic, Connecticut to Mary Moriarty. Thomas was 33 and Mary was 26. Mary's mother was Abbie Sullivan and her father John Moriarty. Mary and Thomas had ten more children : Thomas Jr. John, James, patrick, Edward, Mary Magdaline ( called Mammie), William, Francis, and Catherine Cecilia (know mostely as Kate). I don't know the name of the tenth child. I know you mentioned that Thomas was in MA. is it possible he moved or did he stay in MA.? Just in case I went ahead in wrote a little for you to go on just in case.
