Maryanne Cashin Flynn became a widow in 1898 when her farmer husband, Maurice Flynn, of Killahalla, Waterford, died at age 40 and left her with 7 children. When Marianne died in 1901, she was listed as a publican at Kiely's Cross, Waterford. I understand that Maryanne lived above the pub with her 7 children. Can anyone tell me how to find out what is involved in becoming a publican - in 1900? If it requires a license, do you pay for it and what does it permit you to do? Would there be any archives dealing with pub licenses in Ireland? Sorry, I am a deprived non-drinking American who was in one pub one time when visiting Ireland 20 years ago. I checked Google, but couldn't find what I was looking for. Maxine Driscoll
