James Brown of Carbonear. In eulogizing the ordination of Father Brown, the newspaper NEWFOUNDLANDER said: 'The candidate for Holy Orders, Mr. Brown, son of Mr. William Brown, a most respectable citizen of this place, was sent to Ireland for his education some years since, and returned here after finishing his course of studies, with the most flattering testimonials of character and ability from the president of St. John's College at Waterford."
