Hello Listers, This is a new query John Beresford's parents were Thomas BERESFORD and Catherine AHEARN. He was born about 1821. In about 1856, in Waterford, he married Bridget Cecilia POWER, born about 1838. Her parents were John POWER and Catherine Kennedy. Her faith was Catholic his was not. They had 10 children, named Maurice, Mary Ann, Kathleen, Thomas, Margaret (my ggrandmother, born 1864 in Seskinan), Alice Louise, Annie, Bridget, Henry and John. In 1852 John went to Melbourne, Australia and maybe found some gold. His occupation on the ship is listed as agricultural labourer. He returned and married Bridget in 1856. In 1880, aged nearly 60, he packed up his family and they emigrated to Melbourne. The mother and most of the children travelled on the Loch Sloy, with John and one son travelling separately. John died aged 68 years in 1889. He was working on the railways and had an accident. They have many descendants. I would like to know exactly where they came from. Family lore says that Alice's place of birth was "Burrucall" also in Seskinan. Any information would be appreciated.
