Cara thanks for the infomation.Just in case you can help I will give you the information I have. I am looking for my gr. grandfather Jeremiah McGuire born about 1830 or 1831. He was not born in Waterford but moved into the city about 1859. We believe we found him on the British census of 1881 on the ship "Copeland" in Portsmouth Harbor. Jeremiah had 3 sons who were also sailors. Jeremiah born 1858 place unknown. Richard born 1860 and Hugh {my gr.father} born 1864. Richard and Hugh born in Waterford City. Hugh moved to Wales about 1895 and sailed out of the ports of Cardiff and Newport. Jeremiah also had gr.sons that were mariners. Jeremiah 1886 James 1893 and Thomas 1893 who was killed in WW11 when his ship was torpedoed off the coast of N. Ireland. There may be others but these are the only ones we know. His gr.daughter was the widow of Thomas Coffee killed on the ss Formby in Waterford Harbor in WW1. We believe Hugh was the only child of Jeremiah to move from Waterford. Thanks Wendy. (USA)
