I have a Jane English b. before 1777 to Andrew English and wife. I found this reference to an Andrew English and wife online >From Affane, Ireland 12-2001 Might be right Andrew English, father of Jane English Bullock Monumental Inscriptions at AFFANE, Co. WATERFORD. Transcribed (AUGUST, 1949) BY THE REV. WALLACE CLARE, F.R.S.A., F.I.G.R.S. http://sites.netscape.net/joepowerjoe/AffaneGravestones.htm ENGLISH. Underneath this tomb are deposited the remains of Andrew English, Esq., late of Littlebridge, who departed this life on the 24th day of January, 1792, in the 66th year of his age. Also lieth here the body of. . . . English his wife, daughter of Richard Musgrave, Esq. late of Salterbridge. She died on the . . . day of July, 1798, aged 70 years. Also reference to Jane English's marriage as the second wife of Richard Bullock, from the 41st Afoot Regiment Sir Christopher F. Musgrove of Yongal in the County of Cork, Baronet, this day made oath before me, that on or about the 22nd day of July, in the year 1797, he was present at the parish church at Affane, in the County of Waterford, at the marriage of Richard Bullock, quartermaster and lieutenant in His Majesty's Forty-first of foot and then at Cappoquin in said county, with Jane English, daughter of Andrew English, of Littlebridge in said county of Wateford." Do you suppose your Andrew English could be the brother to Jane "English" Bullock? Their birth dates are fairly close. By 1839, my Jane "English" Bullock was living in Carrying Place, Northumberland or Newcastle County, Ontario, Canada Merriam White merriam@kc.rr.com
Unfortunately I have no information on the parentage of my Andrew English. His wife was Ellen (Eleanor) Griffin and she had died before 1838. At his trial (reported in the Waterford Mail 14th or 15th July 1838, Andrew lived at Carrigeen (village or townland?). Extracts from Catholic Parocial records for Cappoquin (Film No 0100237) have children of Andrew English & Ellen Greehy (may or may not be the correct wife) list names of children baptised that match those children of Andrew's that arrived in Australia and, in addition Mary and Helen, but no other male and no Jane . Without the names of Andrew's parents it is difficult to prove relationships. Be sure to look elsewhere. They might live in Galway but went to church in Roscommon. >
