I have a film containing the 1824 Pigot Directory of Ireland. I hope we can add some of the Waterford pages while I have the film here. The copies are very dark and parts are hard to read. ................................................ CAPPOQUIN, A market, post and fair town in the county of Waterford, is distant 105 miles south by west of Dublin, and pleasantly situated on the river Blackwater, over which there is a wooden bridge. Here are the remains of an old castle, commanding a most extensive prospect over the adjacent county. The date of its erection is not ascertained, but its construction is by tradition ascribed to the Fitzgerald family, proverbially disaffected; in the rebellion of the year 1641. it was defended by an English garrison commanded by Captain Hugh CROKER, acting under the authority of the Earl of Cork. The church is a very neat structure, situated in conjunction with the Roman Catholic chapel, which is very spacious. Cappoquin, though a hamlet in the parish of Lismore, is a post town. Considerable business is done in the cora_ trade, the river Blackwater being navigable for boats, which ply between here and Youghal. There are two weekly markets, on Wednesday and Saturday, and two annual fairs, on the 17th of March and the 5th of July. *The order of info is last name, first name (& esq.) occupation if different from the heading and Place of residence or business.
