My earliest ancestors from Waterford were Walter POWERS and Ellen McCARTHY. Walter was born about 1834 and emigrated to the United States (Alton, Illinois) sometime in the 1850s. He had a brother, John POWERS, who married in the United States and a sister, Bridget, who was married to Patrick MULCAHY. There is a possibility that Patrick and Bridget were married in Ireland. Walter married Ellen McCARTHY in Alton. Her obituary states that she was born in County Waterford about March, 1847, but since the marriage didn't occur until 1869, there is no point in searching for a place where McCarthys and Powers families are found living near eachother. Powers are EVERYwhere in county Waterford anyway. More needles in the haystack ;-) Jane Lahey
