I am a new member of the list and I am hoping to find some information on a Charles James Palmer CLARKSON. Unfortunately I have very little information to go on, but I wonder if someone could help with some general questions. Charles J.P. CLARKSON was born in London and other than his birth, the only information I have is about a daughter, Dora CLARKSON, who on the 1881 census gives her place of birth as Waterford, apparently about 1875. I don't have a clue as to Charles J.P. CLARKSON'S occupation, but two of his brothers were British Army officers, another brother was a Clerk in Holy Orders, and his eldest brother was a barrister. His father was also a barrister. He does not appear on the 1881 census for England, nor can I find a record of his marriage or death in the English civil indexes. Did Ireland's censuses follow the same ten year pattern as England's and is there any way to access those censuses? Are the Irish civil indexes available for searching on-line, and if not, can anyone advise how to arrange to have a search done? I apologize for the almost total lack of information, but any information would be greatly appreciated - and if this name is familiar to anyone, I would be overjoyed to hear from you. Thank you, Linda Pagnani USA
Hi Linda, I'm afraid I can't be much help, but . . . The Irish censuses pre-1901 were destroyed. Some fragments - very few - survived. The civil indexes are not on line. Good news is that the civil indexes are filmed by the LDS & can be seen through your local Family History Library.
