1. [WATERFORD] Some Encumbered Estates added
2. Christina Hunt
3. Hi there - I have uploaded some Encumbered estates for Carrickbeg and Dungarven to the IGP Waterford website. Encumbered estates where sales of estates that were burdened with debt as a result of the famine. These sales took place in the 1850's. The estates here belonged to James William WAL and Thomas Ponsonby CAREW, Esq. So, these do not cover the whole location, just the portion belonging to the particular landowner. As part of the sale, the owners provided information on who the tenants were. The source used: FHL #0258844 *Many thanks to Erin James and Joanne Connors for transcribing these for addition to the website! I have also made sure to update the search engine so you can also try that out while you search. www.rootsweb.com/~irlwat2 Regards, Christina North Carolina, USA

1. [WATERFORD] Co. Waterford to New Orleans in the 1850s
2. Hi Listers, I am subscribing temporarily to suggest to everyone that they pay a visit to the New Orleans, Louisiana rootswb site at: Orleans Parish Archives http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/orleans.htm I am one of the coordinators of the site and have been transcribing the admission records to the public hospital there (called Charity Hospital even today) for the 1850s. New Orleans was one of the major ports for immigration in the 1850s, so that amny people from Ireland settled in New Orleans or else passed through the city on the way to points further north such as St. Louis, Cincinnati, and parts of Iowa and Tennessee. Not only I am transcribing the admission for certain surnames, I have recently begun to do the records from 1851. I am finished with January and February so far - a total of 3400 names or so. In doing this, I came across an individual from Co. Waterford, and decided to temporariliy join your list and post his name, in hopes that someone can connect with him. The columns are: Date of Admission, Date of Death, Date of Discharge, Hospital Ward, Name, Occupation, Place of Birth, Age (in Jan or Feb 1851) 16-Jan -- 17-Jan 27 Daniel Shehan Laborer Waterford City, Ireland 29 1-Jan -- 20-Jan 29 Michael Connell Waterford Co., Ireland 53 2-Jan -- 3-Jan 22 Thomas Bryan Laborer Waterford Co., Ireland 26 3-Jan -- 12-Jan 20 James Powers Laborer Waterford Co., Ireland 18 3-Jan -- 7-Jan 24 John Navil Laborer Waterford Co., Ireland 22 5-Jan -- 9-Jan 33 Perry Ryan Laborer Waterford Co., Ireland 23 6-Jan -- 13-Jan 31 David Donavan Laborer Waterford Co., Ireland 32 13-Jan 14-Jan -- 13 Richard Murphy Waterford Co., Ireland 12 yrs 17-Jan -- 18-Mar 35 Ann Kennedy born Shannon Waterford Co., Ireland 32 25-Jan 31-Jan -- 34 Mary Tobin Waterford Co., Ireland 18 4-Feb -- 10-Feb 10 Thomas Hackett Laborer Waterford Co., Ireland 27 5-Feb -- 10-Feb 12 John Egan Laborer Waterford Co., Ireland 24 6-Feb -- 9-Feb 34 Mary Godin born Fitzgerald Waterford Co., Ireland 40 7-Feb -- 12-Feb 33 Richard Maher Laborer Waterford Co., Ireland 52 11-Feb -- 17-Feb 16 Henry Fitzgerald Laborer Waterford Co., Ireland 35 13-Feb 14-Feb -- 34 Mary Gordon Waterford Co., Ireland 48 14-Feb -- 16-Feb 10 Morris Hackett Laborer Waterford Co., Ireland 28 15-Feb -- 23-Feb 29 Michael Power Laborer Waterford Co., Ireland 23 17-Feb -- 22-Feb 34 Johanna Power Waterford Co., Ireland 40 17-Feb -- 21-Feb 19 John Navill Laborer Waterford Co., Ireland 22 17-Feb -- 25-Mar 11 John Powers Laborer Waterford Co., Ireland 21 27-Feb 27-Feb -- 34 Marh Tobin born Frahey Waterford Co., Ireland 30 The info here represents only part of each record. The full entry gives the following information: Date of Admission Date of Death When Discharged Ward Name of Person Occupation Place of Birth Age Last Place From How Long in New Orleans Marital Status Long Sick Disease Hr of Admission Remarks If you recognizae anyone on this list, please check our web site. The URLs for these January and February hospital records are: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/la/orleans/charityhos/chajan51.txt ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/la/orleans/charityhos/chafeb51.txt Even if you do not connect to any of these names, you might want to visit our site anyway, as we have posted hundreds of thousands of vital records, immigration records, complete city directories listed by name and then separately by address (1811, 1822, 1832, 1842, and 1851), American Civil War draft records, lists of victims of various yellow fever epidemics, cemetery records, and tens of thousands of obits. I am joining various rootsweb lists for the various birthplaces I find in the admission records and suggesting people researching that location visit our site. On occasion, I have been contacted by someone who has been able to find their long lost relatives thanks to my postings like this. I am not going to stay on the list, however if you have any questions, please contact me at CFitzp@aol.com. I can'[t guarantee I can answer all inquiries, but I will do my best. Good luck with your research. Colleen Fitzpatrick CoCoordinator Orleans Parish (New Orleans, Louisiana) Rootsweb Site

1. [WATERFORD] Andrew English- Cappoquin
2. DAVID ROGENCAMP
3. Unfortunately I have no information on the parentage of my Andrew English. His wife was Ellen (Eleanor) Griffin and she had died before 1838. At his trial (reported in the Waterford Mail 14th or 15th July 1838, Andrew lived at Carrigeen (village or townland?). Extracts from Catholic Parocial records for Cappoquin (Film No 0100237) have children of Andrew English & Ellen Greehy (may or may not be the correct wife) list names of children baptised that match those children of Andrew's that arrived in Australia and, in addition Mary and Helen, but no other male and no Jane . Without the names of Andrew's parents it is difficult to prove relationships.
