I'm actually Jennifer Ray Durandetta-Gunning, a Gunning by marriage. My husband's family lives (and has always lived as far as we know) in the Philadelphia area of PA. I haven't had much luck tracing the name, although grandmother Gunning believes it originated in the UK. Grandfather Gunning died in the 60s so no help from him and was an only child. Also, it's a common name in our area, and tracing it has been very difficult. Not to mention that trying to find a single line in the population of Phila. is also a major chore! I'm the genealogy buff in the family and not many others are as interested as I in tracing the line.
