    1. [ULSTER] Re: Marshalls and Forbis from Armagh
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Marshall-Forbis Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/DYC.2ACE/297.1 Message Board Post: My name is Gloria Marshall, GrGranddaughter of Lucy Forbis Swisher. (b.10/21/1874). She died at the age of 96, while visiting her daughter, Agnes, in Arizona. (October or November 1970). Her body was returned to Indiana for the funeral and burial at that time. Lucy's daughter, Nellie Emaline Swisher,(b.05/07/1898) married Milton Monroe Goodnight, had two sons, Gordon (my father) and James. They lived in Martinsville, IN. Gordon married Jean Admire from Morgantown, IN in November 1943. He was shipped overseas with the US Army shortly thereafter. My Grandparents and James and my parents moved to Rhea County, Tennessee from Indiana in 1948 when I was only 2 years old. They built, owned, and operated Rhea Springs Fish Hatchery for many years. Lucy Forbis Swisher's GrGranddaughter(that would be me) Gloria Goodnight, married L. Clark Marshall 04/10/65 in Dayton, Tennessee. There is a connection with her Forbis lineage and the Marshall lineage but it is on my side, through Lucy Forbis even though my husband's family name is also Marshall. The first entry in Lucy Forbis Swisher's ancestry book was Marshall and the last one was our daughters, Lisa (b.1968)) and Kristie Marshall(b 1971). I never knew of the Marshall name being part of my ancestry until I read the book that belonged to my Grandmother. Some of those Marshalls were descended from John Marshall, I do recall that. And I know that some lived and died in North Carolina and some of them came to Tennessee. In fact, some of them are buried in Jefferson County, TN, which is not far from Knoxville, where we live now. I am now trying to research my husband's ancestry. It would be quite a coincidence if there was any blood relationship there, but stranger things have happened. Until that book was finished, I never knew that any of my relatives had ever lived in the South prior to us. And I would not have expected to have had any ancestors by the same last name as my husband's. I will look for my notes on the Marshall-Forbis-connection and we can compare notes.
