These families were in Donegal, Derry and Tyrone. I have a copy of a family letter dated in latter part of 1800s referring to "uncle Galt" who had passed away intestate. Evidently, the uncle had been ill some time and the writer wondered why he hadn't written will. It is the only reference I've seen to the GALT or GAULT surname.
