They changed their name to Givnin in the US, and I had a difficult time finding their original name. I remember hearing McGivney as a child...but I'm still not certain if that is the name. I understand that the name could also be McEvinney, so I'll give you my info and you can tell me if it rings a bell. Patrick was born in Ireland in 1824 to John and Bridget. I believe that Patrick came to America on September 11, 1848, aboard the Caleb Grimshaw, landing in Castle Garden, New York City. His wife, Mary Ann, was born in Ireland in 1832 to Patrick and Bridget Kane. Patrick and Mary Ann had 4 sons: William, b1862, Michael, b1867, Patrick, b1871, and Bernard, my ggrandfather, bMay 21, 1873. They lived in a "patch" near Mahanoy City, PA, and Patrick was a coal miner. That's all I have. If you can help me locate their birthplaces in Ireland, I would be thrilled. M! y sister and I visited Ireland last summer and we plan to return. We were in Counties Cork and Kerry, where our Healy relatives came from, and our trip was fantastic!! Looking forward to hearing from you, Joanne
