There are nearly 1500 towns/townlands in the county in 45 civil parishes. The availability of church registers and how the church registers might be accessed for all the towns/townlands depends on the religious denomination and the townland of birth. Some have been lost, some are microfilmed in the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland and others are only in local custody or in other archives. Here's information about church records at PRONI: http://www.proni.gov.uk/records/church.htm Here's information on Presbyterian Church records: http://www.proni.gov.uk/records/private/presindx.htm Church of Ireland (Anglican) records: http://www.proni.gov.uk/records/private/cofiindx.htm There are about 25 RC parishes in Derry and availability of those registers varies. So you really need to find Benjamin's place of birth in Derry in his and his children's records in the US. Here's a list of records you can research: Benjamin: 1) civil marriage record 2) church marriage record 3) civil death record 4) church death record 5) cemetery record 6) tombstone 7) will 8) obituary 9) US Naturalisation records esp. first papers or initial petition or citizenship. His children: 1) civil birth record x # of children 2) church baptismal record x # of children 3) civil marriage record x # of children 4) church marriage record x # of children 5) civil death record x # of children 6) church death record x # of children 7) obituaries x # of children EilĂs O'Hara
