Surnames: McEvinney, McGivney, Givnin Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/DYC.2ACE/1344 Message Board Post: I am trying to locate the original names and birthplaces of my gggrandparents, Patrick and Mary Ann Givnin. Family history passed down says that Givnin was not their original name, and it was changed when they entered America. Patrick was born in Ireland in 1824 and died in the state of Pennsylvania in 1893. His parents first names were John and Bridget. Mary Ann was born in Ireland in 1832 and died in 1893 in Pennsylvania. Her parents were Patrick and Bridget Kane. I found both the Kane and McEvinney names in Ulster so I thought I would start there. I have researched birth and death records and some church records in the United States and still cannot determine the original name nor their birthplace. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Joanne, I live at Engadine, Australia, and we have a Doctor by the name of GIVNEY in the Town. He is not my doctor but I visited him once as an after hours doctor and remember he said that the original Givney people were from Ireland. I am looking for my g grandparents from Cavan, Ire by the names of Thomas SHANNON married Mary BLAKE. My grandparents came from Cty.Cavan and Cty Wicklow respectively and were married in Sydney in 1867.
