I have been doing research into families in the Donaghadee and Comber areas and find a large number of Huddlestons?Hiddlestons there. I am wondering if you know for certain that your ancestor was born in Belfast because often emigrants in the 18th. C when asked where they came from gave the name of the port of embarcation rather than the exact area of birth. In the Townland of Monlough in the Parish of Comber records from the mid 19th. C. list the following farmers: Huddleson Samuel John James Robert The Copy of Registries in the Barony of Ards 1813-1821 lists John Huddleston in Donaghadee. In 1886 we also find John Huddleston listed in Monlough, Moneyreagh. Church Montgomery Here lies the body of Grisel Montgomery who died 14th. April 1803 aged 34 years. Also her children, William and John. The name Montgomery is common all over the Ards. The 1843 Directory for Belfast does not list anyone of the name of either Huddleston or Hiddleston though directories are not always all inclusive. The Huddlestons were among the early settlers in the Ards, coming over with Hugh Montgomery about 1710. At that time they were listed in the Townland of Moneyreagh and the name was spelled "Huddlestone". Nowhere else in Ulster have I seen such a concentration of Huddlestons. I thought this might be of interest to you. Robert Alexander Huddleston - House, offices and land.
