He left Ireland in 1844 for Upper Canada and was living near Newtownards at the time. James married Mary Thomson and they were Presbyterian. When they left Ireland many friends and relatives remained behind but we do not know who they were. Are there any Newell researchers for Kilmore Parish? I have gravestone inscriptions for a later John Newell in Listooder but not complete records on 1796 Flax List or Tithe Applotment.
