    1. [IRL-ULSTER] Need help re BEERS THOMPSON in early 19th century
    2. His daughter, Eliza Thompson OFFICER, died in 1908 in Rhode Island. Her daughter wrote for her death notice that Eliza was "...born in 1815 in the north of Ireland, of Scottish descent, the daughter of Beers and Mary Thompson." Eliza seems to have been the third (and last) child of Beers & Mary. She married in Quebec c. 1836. No trace of them so far in Quebec so I don't know when they emigrated, where they landed in Canada, nor from where they originated "in the north of Ireland". Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I might seek Beers Thompson "in the north"? No tradition has been passed down about him (nor Mary - who was a Stewart/Stuart). TIA. Jack Bowker

Surnames: McCrae, McRae Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.ulster/2923/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Has anyone seen any records for a McCrae[McRae] family in Ulster or anywhere in Ireland about 1670 to 1700. Alan[Alan McCrae[McRae]was born about 1675 and his brother John was older. Alan and John could have emigrated to Scotland in the late 1690's. There are records in Ayr, Scotland for both Allan and John and they start from 1708. The spelling of Alan/Allan McRae/McCrae has varied even on official records up to his death in Ayr in 1749. There are no records in Scotland for these two before 1708 when John was married in Ayr. Any information would help. Thanks Peter McCrae

    2. After you have check Griffiths, you must also check the land record indexs for the land records of ireland. the Land Memeorials. you have to know the townland for you folks. That usually has to be found this side of the big Pond. I found mine on a tomb stone of the fellow who came from Ireland. But allowing that you dont look for it , Griffths is the way to go. Mine went from 1793 from when they came to Argyle , NY to County Cavan, Ireland. fred

    1. Re: [IRL-ULSTER] Ulster counties census or equivalent
    2. There is another way - they are the Griffith Valuation Book which is dated about 1840's. This is what most people use instead of the census what was destroyed. By the way, it was the whole of Ireland census that was destroyed either in 1916 when the British destroyed some and the 1922 Dublin fire. You may be able to get a look at these books in the libraries. Not everyone has them but they are available in Ireland and London. Hope you get what you are looking for. Cathleen

    3. I have been reading alot about Northern Ireland's censuses being destroyed. Is there any source of information detailing who lived with a family during a certain time period? I am looking for years from about 1840-1920. I have a bunch of families to check and don't know where to begin without a census. Also...are there records detailing travel or immigration from the UK to Northern Ireland? I have 2 families from Yorkshire that end up in Antrim and Down. How could I check when they arrived? Thanks for any help! I'm fairly new at this. Eireann

    3. The most easily obtainable data which might help would be the Civil Registration marriage indexes (began 1845) on LDS microfiche - if you have checked those without success. How about trying Marriages in Scotland or England. Sometimes Irish people worked for a time across-the-water and married there.
