    1. [IRL-ULSTER] Archibald & Elliott 1700's and Before, Londonderry and Scotland
    2. My ancestor, Maj. David Archibald, was born in County Londonderry on 20 September 1717, and married Elizabeth Elliott on 19 May 1741, presumably in County Londonderry. She was born in County Londonderry on 10 June 1720. David appears to have been born in either Colraine or Maghera(not certain whether it was the Parish of or the village of). Does anyone have records with the exact locations for these two births and marriage? Can anyone tell me who holds these records today? Material I have found indicates this Archibald family may have come to Ulster from Dumfries / Dumfries and Galloway and the Elliotts may have come from Roxburghshire somewhere near Hermitage Castle.Has anyone matched up the Archibalds and Elliotts from Londonderry with these families, and if so, what are the exact locations. I'm guessing that these families came to Londonderry around 1600, so there would be several generations. Any help will be most appreciated, particularly with Elliott. Not sure when, but approximately in 1700 - 1750. They later settled in North Georgia . We have very little information on that period, John Goolsby had a son named William C. Goolsby. He was born in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. One of boys of William C. Goolsby was named John Lacy Goolsby. John Lacy Goolsby son Raymond, stated that they were from Ulster, Ireland, but that covers a large area, as per the map. Would appreciate any information, that by chance anyone may have. 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: TobyTNT Surnames: Watson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.ulster/2953/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Can anyone enlighten me on the following National Archives Reference: Crossle/Watson/1/637? The FHL has 38 rolls of microfilm from this manuscript containing will abstracts unavailable elsewhere, but its index does not mention Watson or reference the material in the same way as the NA. I found this reference on the Origins site and tried to get data on this particular abstract from the Ulster Historical Foundation. After describing exactly what I wanted and paying the initial fee, I received a worthless report telling me about the great fire in 1922 (about which I was fully aware) and recommending searches of material dating from 100 years after my ancestors left Ireland. They apparently had no idea of how to research the Crossle manuscript because they were given the same reference code. I'm hoping somebody knows about this extremely useful repository of selected will abstracts so I won't have to go through all 38 rolls. 1. Re: [IRL-ULSTER] Crossle Manuscript Reference Query
    2. That has been my experience ever since Dr. Brian Trainer left as their research director. When he was there it seemed as though the training of the staff was in research - not the sales of genealogy reports whether they meant something or not. Just the sale, my man. At one time the UHF was a top notch organization but it may have gone downhill what with all of these different sites being set up to help with the research. They did a good job on researching my ancestors, although it was expensive but it was worth it. I am afraid now to recommend anyone to use them now.
