Hello List, Does anyone know if the 1901 Census is indexed by name for Belfast? If so, where would I find it? Jane
Hi All. I am researching the Harwood/Beckett family. Margaret Harwood was born 1835c, her sister Elizabeth born 1830c Warringstown, Donaghcloney, Nth Ireland. Their parents were William and Sophia Harwood (nee Campbell). Can anyone help me with info on the parents, also info on Robert Beckett, he married Elizabeth 1852c I think it was either the Moira or Seagoe areas. Hoping to hear from someone Regards. John
My husband's grandmother SUSAN DRAIN and her sister CHARLOTTE DRAIN came to America from Ballymoney in the late 1800s. We will be visiting there later this year and would love to make contact with grandmother's relatives there. Any suggestions about how to do that? Any suggestions for the best way to research her family before we go and once we are there? Thanks, Libbie Griffin
Hi Kay & Greg: I got this the other day via the IRL-ULSTER site. I am not sure if I can be of any help. However I was born in Belfast and do know the surrounding area pretty well. Do you have a birthday, or a place name where your ancestor was born. Belfast would be the port city of course. But I think even when I was there in the 1950's boats left for Glasgow via Larne (which is about 30 minutes by train from Belfast ) If he was in the Merchant Marines he might have left from there. Of course there are many small fishing villages in Co. Down. Drop me a line if you have any further info. I am only starting checking on my genealogy now....so I can empathize with you!! Hello Ulster list. Greetings from the other side of the world. Are there SKS's on the list who would care to advise this searcher how he might go about finding his long lost paternal great grandfather. I find it down right disheartening that I know so little about Him. I have made good progress tracing the families of my mother's parents. I have made good progress tracing the families of my wife's paternal and maternal ancestors, but all I have for James Blackburn is from his marriage certificate, when he married Susan Henney in Glasgow. The details of this marriage are:- On 25 July 1870 at 285 Argyle Street, Glasgow, after banns according to the forms of the Wesleyan Methodist Church, James Blackburn, 28, Seaman, Marchant Service, son of John Blackburn, dec., Fisherman and Martha Blackburn,m.s.Neilson,dec. His address was 32 Dalrymple Street, Greenock. Susan Henney, 19, of the same address, daughter of Daniel Henney, Seaman, Merchant Service, and Mary Henney,m.s. Leitch. The witnesses were William McLachlan and Mary Dunlop. The Minister was James Percy Kealdy. I have documents which give the birth place of James as"Belfast Antrim". The information I am searching is the birth record of James. Where should I look and how do I get there, and is this possible through the NET. I think the records if they exist would be in a Fishing Port Parish where there is a Wesleyan Methodist Church, but I do not know enough about Belfast or it's environs, to make a start in that direction without some assistance. The parents of James, John and Martha may also have been married in Antrim. To find that record would be a real bonus. Thanks to all in advance. Greg Blackburn in Raumati Beach, New Zealand

Hello from Canada, I am seeking the parents and any possible siblings of my g.g. Grandfather, Alexander LOCKHART, born abt. 1788 ((Scot?Ire?). Married 1826, Diocese of Armagh, Ireland, to Marie Richenet from Switzerland (Church of Ireland). Died Belfast, 1848. Had son also Alexander LOCKHART, who co-founded Crawford & Lockhart law firm in Belfast in 1860's (firm still in business), although last family member, Alexander Agnew LOCKHART, died 1925. We have family crest inscribed "John Lockhart of Lee, Esq. Also have some family silver with the Boar's head. I am trying to find out which family members came from Scotland to Ireland, and when? The family law firm has references to wills of Samuel, John and Robert LOCKHART, years from 1765 - 1856 in Carrickfergus and Ballymena, Ireland. I have reviewed the book, Seven Centuries of the Lockharts of Lee by Simon MacDonald Lockhart but cannot find from those particular charts the likely family member who moved to Ireland. Would be grateful of any information or suggestions from members. Thank you. Elayne Lockhart, Toronto, Canada Searching: LOCKHART, AGNEW, RICHENET, ELSWORTHY, MC AULEY, MC MULLEN

Hi to all and any prospective new friends I might meet on this list. I am trying to unearth any small tidbit of information on the Falloons of the Dungannon/Coalisland/Aughamullen area. NOT a common name, I am thinking it is not of Norman/Anglo origin....I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about this surname.....I would be almost positive this is not in any way connected to Fallons, Phelans in the South and this is a unique name to Ulster. I do not think my Falloons have any connection to the Antrim Falloons/Faloons......someone might know better than I about that. My great great grandfather Peter was born in a house currently in Coalisland....still standing. No one currently living and connected to our family ....distantly 3 times removed from the Falloon Girls from the turn of the 20th century (we have a dearth of males in this family....I am the last, only child of numerous Falloons here in the states....and the last Peter Falloon only had two girls too)....has any knowledge or lore about the Family. Is it possible to find out from Griffiths, Tithes, HearthMoney Rolls, other records who might have actually owned this land? I might be able to glean info from old estate records. This was a Catholic family. My great great grandfather Peter was born 1820.....his mother was Catherine O'Neill. A Griffiths, year unknown to me, places her in Clintycracken parish with a Hugh Falloon. Peter's dad???? We have a letter postmarked 1867 from a brother Hugh in Aughamullen ....I am thinking he is the elder brother of the family.....other names, some not clearly written...Bella? Mary Jane. Would love to know all the siblings of my great great grandfather....who these girls married. I would love to know if Hugh married and had children....I have no clue about him. I do not know if Peter married in Ireland or America....but he did marry an Ann McNerny (spelling????) Anyone know of a great book or great places to hunt for possible history on this family or this area of Ulster????? The O'Neill connection is fascinating to me too...but have no idea where to go with that one....so numerous, so common a name. Any ideas would be gratefully accepted and appreciated. I do thank you for your patience with my loquacious and rambling style....not the typical genealogy post at all, but hey...we Falloons are an odd lot, yes we are. Brightest blessings, Candice It is only with the heart that one can see clearly. What is essential is invisible to the eye. Antoine de Saint Exupery.
