    2. Wilson Cornwall, After his marriage NOTE - Family records give no suggestion that he was a convict, he was thought to have arr. in Melbourne in 1849-50 with his brother Thomas. 07/02/1850 married Sarah Ann Macatier (various spellings) in Melbourne Vic. - Strong links with William John Loudon, Sarahs' brother in law - Made no secret that he was "proud to be an Orangeman" no reply from Orange Lodge on enquiries re him. 1851-52 Bth of dau Sarah Ann in Melbourne, Vic - Owner of 5 blocks of land incl. Buried with wife at St Kilda cemetary on the 19th COMMENTS Birthdate >From the Trial documents of 21/03/1839 he was aged 21 (therefore b.22/03/1817-21/03/1818) >From the Convict Indent of 25/01/1840 he was aged 23 (therefore b.26/01/1816-25/01/1817) >From bth cert. of Edward on 02/11/1867 he was aged 42 (therefore b.03/11/1824-02/11/1825) >From registration of death on 16/12/1900 he was aged 85 (therefore b.17/12/1814-16/12/1815) The age from Edwards Bth certificate can be discarded since the source has proven to be unreliable in other regards (shows their marriage in 1843 when we have the registry entry for it in 1850). I would say that we must assume he was born between 1814 - 18 although I would lean towards the ages given in earlier sources: 1816 - 18 Continued on next posting Alan Anderton, Bargo NSW Australia

    2. I have been doing research into families in the Donaghadee and Comber areas and find a large number of Huddlestons?Hiddlestons there. I am wondering if you know for certain that your ancestor was born in Belfast because often emigrants in the 18th. C when asked where they came from gave the name of the port of embarcation rather than the exact area of birth. In the Townland of Monlough in the Parish of Comber records from the mid 19th. C. list the following farmers: Huddleson Samuel John James Robert The Copy of Registries in the Barony of Ards 1813-1821 lists John Huddleston in Donaghadee. In 1886 we also find John Huddleston listed in Monlough, Moneyreagh. The graveyard of the Monyreagh Non-Subscribing Presbyterian Church lists the following gravestone inscriptions: Hiddleston/Huddleson Here lieth the body of Robert Hiddleson of Monlaugh who died 17th. August 1799 aged 74 years. Here lieth the body of Mary Hiddleson alias M...on, wife to Robert Hiddleson who died 12th. March 1795 ahed 62 years. Here lieth the body of John Hiddleson, son of Robert, who died March 1779 aged 22 years. Here lieth the body of Hannah Hiddleson alias Alexander who died 2nd. June ... aged 54 years ...duteous wife, a kind parent ...James Huddleson of Monlough ...the memory of his wife. Huddleston Erected in memory of John Huddleston who died 30th. Nov. 1860 aged 72 years. Also his son David P. Huddleston who died 24 th. Feb. 1868 aged 33 years. Also his wife Elizabeth who died 4th. Feb. 1881 aged 72 years. Also his son Robert who died 16th. Oct. 1896 aged 66 years. And his wife Mary Frame who died 20th. Sept. 1918 aged 75 years. Also their daughter Mary who died 6th. August 1921 aged 41 years. Also their daughter Alice Jane who died 8th. Jan. 1923 aged 78 years. Griffith's Valuations for the Parish of Moneyreagh lists the following: Anne Huddleston - land. Lessor John Magill " " - House and land William Huddleston - House, offices and land. Lessor,Hill Trevor Robert Huddleston - House offices and land John Huddleston - House and land James Huddleston - House and land Moneyreagh Non-Subsc. Presb. Church Montgomery Here lies the body of Grisel Montgomery who died 14th. April 1803 aged 34 years. Also her children, William and John. The name Montgomery is common all over the Ards. The 1843 Directory for Belfast does not list anyone of the name of either Huddleston or Hiddleston though directories are not always all inclusive. The Huddlestons were among the early settlers in the Ards, coming over with Hugh Montgomery about 1710. At that time they were listed in the Townland of Moneyreagh and the name was spelled "Huddlestone". Nowhere else in Ulster have I seen such a concentration of Huddlestons. I thought this might be of interest to you. Robert Alexander Huddleston - House, offices and land.

Surnames: Lowry/ Newry/Newcastle Classification: Queries Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/DYC.2ACE/457.2 Message Board Post: While I can't answer your specific question an Edwin Lowry was a farmer at Ballykeel, Cabra, and likely was a relative. As directories don't usually list everyone in a district likely Parish lists, Griffith's Valuation, Tithe Aplotments and gravestone inscriptions would be worth consulting at a nearby LDS library. A Jeremyah Lowery was a grocer in the town of Newry but may not be directly related. The name Lowry also occurs in nearby Newcastle - John Lowry and Robert Lowry listed at Newcastle.

    3. My Great Grandmother Mary Gilbride at the age of 43 along with her children John age 16, Andrew age 14, Bridget (my Grandmother) age 12, Annie age 10, and Peter age 7 came to the USA on April 15, 1908. Their port of departure was Londonderry, Ulster, Ireland. They came over on the ship Furnessia. Another daughter came over before them. Their ship manifest said they resided in Swanlinbar which is in County Cavan, Ireland. It also said that my Grandmother was born in Fermanagh, Ireland. I am trying to find out which townland they lived in and what happened to my Great Grandfather . I think but am not positive( and would like to find out for sure) that his name was Andrew Gilbride as an Aunt found my Grandmother's marriage certificate and it said that was her Father's name. I have also been told Mary Gilbride's maiden name was also Gilbride and would like to find out if her name was indeed Gilbride too. If anyone has any info on the family or any other Gilbride's who may be related please write !! Thank you !!!

Ella, perhaps you can help me with a question concerning Belfast history: There is a family legend in the Law family in America that David William Law , his wife and four sons , William, Thomas, Frank and John were forced to flee Belfast in 1794 because of persecution by the Catholics. Was there persecution of Protestants BY Catholics in Belfast at that time? I always thought it was the other way round. Where can I find info on Belfast history for that period? 3. Hello Don Kelly and listers, I have been reading through your e-mail replies to other listers and saw you mentioned Bassett's Directory for Down. Does that directory cover Belfast during the 1940's - 1950's? I would like to know who was living at Chamberlain Street (I think the number was 15) between 1942 and 1958. The family name was NUGENT and may have had a name-change after 1953. If any other listers can accommodate, I would be pleased to receive what you can find. Hope to hear from someone real soon.
