Hi Listers, Seeking information on the family of my GG Grandfather, JAMES KNIGHT. He was born in March of 1832, son of MICHAEL KNIGHT and ELIZABETH CARROLL. James arrived in New York on 19 April 1851 onboard the SS Ticonderoga. He settled in Massachusetts and fought in the Civil War. He listed Antrim as his place of birth on his Naturalization papers. I have been unable to find any information on him or his family in Ireland. Is anyone familiar with this family? Paula in Massachusetts

Just logged on to this site and looked at the message board. Think I might have photographs of these two brothers. They are amongst pile of old pictures, which I thought were part of my mother's family but could be from my father's (Edward Allely). Certainly they are WW1 uniforms, but I have no idea who the subjects are. My grandfather, Samuel Allely also served in WW1 in the Royal Irish Rifles although he was over 50 years when he enlisted. He survived and lived until 1944. My research indicates that the Allely family originated in Lincolnshire (Isle of Axholme) and South Yorkshire (Halifax and Doncaster). They were probably granted land in Ulster by Cromwell after the English Civil War. Can't prove it yet, but the names and dates all seem to match. If you are interested I'll scan the photo's and email them to you. Kate Rosenberg
