Margaret, I tooled around this morning a little looking in newspapers for any mention of a Cornelius Murnane or a Mary Scully; didn't turn up much but thought this 1941 article interesting! (If this is your fella then he was really long in the tooth when he invented this as it was 65 years after that 1876 immigration date) but perhaps he had a son or grandson who was mechanically inclined? lol! "AUTO BENDS IN THE MIDDLE MELBOURNE, Australia. -- A car that bends in the middle when rounding corners has been invented by Cornelius Murnane of Melbourne. It is hinged in the middle so that when the steering wheel is turned the whole forepart of the chassis turns instead of just the front wheels. Murnane claims this prevents skids. Thanks Kathy.. not sure about the bendy car hahaha.. not sure also if Cornelius was from Tipperary but his Mary Scully was..I cant find a Civil marriage for them in Tipperary and there are no church records online for Tipp South. The family I think lived on Church Street as per emigration records.. I have come across a family in Main Street in 1901 and 1911 census. Maybe this family were related Margaret ----- Original Message ----- From: "Little.House.Antiques" <little.house.antiques@comcast.net> To: <irl-tipperary@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 25, 2012 11:08 AM Subject: Re: [IRL-TIP] MURNANE SCULLY RYAN TIPP TOWN > Margaret, > > I tooled around this morning a little looking in newspapers > for any mention of a Cornelius Murnane or a Mary Scully; > didn't turn up much but thought this 1941 article interesting! > (If this is your fella then he was really long in the tooth > when he invented this as it was 65 years after that 1876 > immigration date) but perhaps he had a son or grandson who > was mechanically inclined? lol! > > "AUTO BENDS IN THE MIDDLE > > MELBOURNE, Australia. -- A car that bends in the middle when > rounding corners has been invented by Cornelius Murnane of > Melbourne.
