Greetings from across the pond, Seeking information on ggg-grandfather John Hassett (c.1803-1806 poss. Eire- 1881 NY). Emigrated from Dublin 1849, barque Huma, arrived New York March 26, 1849. Arrived with children Ellen Hassett (1840 Ireland-1891 NY), Mary Hassett (1841 Ireland-1918 NY), John Jr (1843 Eire- 1919 NY), and little Catherine (1847 /Eire - 1849 at sea, 2 days before arrival). Immigration records spell the name Hasset. Arrived with Catharine Batterby/Battersby (1800 poss. Eire- 1871 NY). I'm told there is no record of their being married but additionally, her age at the birth of the children was 40, 41, 43, & 47. Though not unheard of, I am surprised she didn't have any children before turning 40 years old, and 47 is awfully old to be giving birth. I question whether John Hassett had been previously married, she gave birth to the children and passed away in An Gorta Mor, and Catharine Batterby was either a second wife, a friend, a relative, or otherwise.
