ELIZA CAREY (Cary) needlewoman, born about 1834/5 emigrated from Ireland to Hobart, Tasmania in 1858 on the “Trade Wind” On the passenger list she gave her place of birth as Tipperary. On her Tasmanian marriage certificate she gave her parents as PETER CAREY & ANN CLARK CAREY. Witness to her marriage were John & Rebecca Clark – how were this couple related to Eliza ? There were 9 additional members of the Carey family. The women gave their occupation as needlewoman, two of the boys were draper’s apprentices, the men were millers, all could read & write. These passengers were sponsored by the Hobart Immigration Aid Society. Any assistance in finding information relating to Eliza and her family in Ireland would be most appreciated. Alan Elliott
Hi Listers, I have not received any replies to this query and so I wonder if there really is not any information available for this period ? I agree with Laurie. In this time frame you need Church Records. I don't see Eliza in the RootsIreland index which covers some locations in Tipperary. That may leave you with the Tipperary Family History Research centre. There records cover the Diocese of Cashel and Emly which covers a large area of Tipperary. http://www.tfhr.org/ The last I looked they are not cheap but are about the only game in town if you have this Diocese. I hope they can help you with this family.
