    1. Re: [TIP] Tipperary Roll Call....MORRISSEY
    2. Cathy, I saw your post regarding the Morrissey clan from County Tipperary Surname Registry. My 3x gr grandfather was Joseph Morrissey was supposedly from Limerick. A picture my sister has from my mother, which was taken in St. John's, Newfoundland in the 1800's, has a note on the back. The note says that Joseph was from County Limerick, while his wife, Ellen Kearney, was from County Kilkenny. Joseph, according to family history, was the brother of the infamous John Morrissey of New York. John was immortalized in the movie "Gangs of New York", where Leo Di Caprio plays uncle John. However, according to history, John was 6'0" tall and weighed 350 pounds and all the knuckles in both hands were broken. John was a 2-time World Champion bare knuckle boxer, a 2 term New York state senator, and a 2 term Congressman from the state of New York. He was also an enforcer for the Tamany Hall bosses. Not too miscast, I would say. The problem with Joseph and John's birth is that, according to family history, Joseph was from Limerick, but John was from Templemore, Tipperary, according to his bio. Joseph also had a son named John (my 2x gr grandfather). He was born in St. John's, Newfoundland. Any connection?
