Eliza Griffin b 1843 m Melbourne Aust 1865 Hi My g grandmother was Eliza or Elizabeth Griffin born Borrisokane about 1843. She travelled to Melbourne, Australia in 1861 as an unassisted passenger on the Shackamaxon, which from the passenger list seemed to carry mainly women and children. Eliza married William Ross Cadden born Glasgow 1838 in Scots Church, Melbourne in 1865. They had 4 children Eliza d aged 1 1866; Annie, John William and Cecilia. Annie married ? Smith;John (my grandfather) m Emily Fawkner 1895; Cecilia m. ?Condon. All lived in and around South Melbourne most of their lives. Eliza died in Melbourne Hospital in 1889 aged 45 years. Thomas rented a house with office and garden in Main St Borrisokane according to Griffith Valuation 1841. I think that Thomas and Eliza were both born or lived at Killeen. According to Eliza's marriage certificate Thomas was a farmer and Eliza deceased.(1865) I'd like to know 1. who there parents were? 2. did Eliza have any siblings? Any one able to help? Edward is my g-grandfather. He was born 1836 in Tipperary and emmigrated to the Unitd States abt.1855, and married a Mary Smith of Belfast. I believe this marriage took place in the U.S. They settled in Manchester,(Hartford, )Connecticut and had a family of seven males who all became silk weavers. Edwards whole family were silk weavers. I suppose he would have lived in Tipperary where there was silk weaving. I wish I had more information. I'd love to have his actual birthplace so I could find his parentage. Thank you. Peace!
