    3. I would like to find some information about my gr.gr.grandmother Marion HICKS. She married a TALBOT and lived in either Clonmell or Nenagh early in the 1800s. They had three daughters, Rebecca, Amelia and Cecilia, and perhaps some sons. When her husband died the children were placed in a home which I think was called the Ferry House. Was there such an institution? Are there any records of children in it? She married a second time to William CALWELL and move to Belfast. I would appreciate any relevant info.

    3. Dear Sandra, Ferryhouse was what was called an Industrial School and was a residential institution run by a religious group- probably the Christian Brothers. It was a place where children orphaned or deemed to be in need of care were placed. It was one of the institutions where abuse of the children by clerics occurred and there is a Government enquiry of the institutions underway in Ireland. There is almost certainly records of the children and if I can turn up anything, I will contact you off list.
