    1. Carey of Co. Tipperary
    2. Hi Walt, I also have been researching a William Carey of Co. Tipperary. His daughter Bridget Carey b. 1827 married Anthony Carroll in Wi. USA in 1849 and settled in Wi. On her death certificate it states her parents as William Carey and Katherine "Nagle" Carey of Co. Tipperary. Anthony Carroll emigrated to Wi. in 1849 from Powerstown Parish, near Clonmel, and they may have come over on the same ship as they were married 5 mo. after arriving in the USA and on ship records it states a Bridget Carey on the same ship. I have not been able to find any info on this William and Catherine Nagle Carey. I did find they did have another daughter Alice "Carey" Neville b 1841 living also in Wi., also the possibility of another daughter Mary who married a Keogh in Wi. This info came from an old autograph book belonging to Bridget and William Carrolls daughter. Due to the different birth dates of the children of William and Catherine Carey, I am sure there were more born to them. Could there be any connection? Carol

    3. Hi Carol, There is evidently a concentration of Carey (and Carew - apparently interchangeable) families in Tipperary, bothe protestant and RC. I expect you know this site with its Powerstown details, but if you haven't, see for example: The Origin of the Carey family of Ireland, by Patrick Carey. Notes on the Irish surname Carey with extra information of County Tipperary and the Clonmel area, at http://www.careyroots.com/careyirish.html Also: http://www.rootsweb.com/~irltip2/registry.htm I'll see what a paid search for Carey in St Mary's Clonmel turns up. I'll post a note here for interested parties in due course.
