Hi all, I am trying to trace the families of John Cooney and Honoria Strap in Tipperary. We know that John was born C1799 and married Honoria on 23rd February 1824 in Boherlahan, Tipperary. Honoria was born C 1835 in Camus, Galway. The children of this couple were: - Thomas, bap: 13th October 1827, Cashel. - Mary, b:C1828; married William Heaney. - Patrick, bap: 10th June 1829, Cashel. - Bridget, b: Oct 1831. - Honora "Annie", bap: 11th April 1833, Cashel. - Judy, bap: 8th Feb 1836, Cashel. - Margaret, bap 23rd May 1840, Cashel. - Catherine, b: C 1841. John with children Thomas, Patrick and Catherine came to Australia in 1857 and Bridget and Mary came out separately, Bridget arriving in 1856. There is no record of Honoria coming to Australia so it is believed that she had died in Ireland. Thomas and Patrick were literate, but John and Catherine weren't. Honoria had siblings: - John Strapp. - William Strapp who married Eileen Cody in 1815, Boherlahan, Tipperary. Could anyone give me information about what resources might be available to help trace this family in Tipperary and Galway?? Regards, Andrea, In Melbourne, Australia
I think the Camus that is referred to is the townland of Camus or Ballycamus about 3 miles from Cashel - on the road between Cashel and Dundrum. Strapp was once a common surname in that townland but as far as I know there isn't any one left with that surname. I also have a Strap(pe) family connection from Tipperary. My gr-gr-grandmother Mary Strappe was born in Tipperary in June 1840 (most likely in Fethard). Her father was Patrick Strappe. Mary married James KEYES. She died in New York City in 1913. I would love to be able to learn more about this family also.
