    1. Problem with birth cert
    2. I was wondering if anyone could help with this problem I have applied numerous times for a birth cert to the Gro, they have been unable to find it. According to the 1901 and 1911 census Matthew Neill age 4 months g son to the head of household which is my gg grandmother on the 1911 census he is named as son to Edward Neill aged 10 by this time my gg grandmother had died and my g grandmother is his wife, there was no sign of Edward on the 1901 census at this address. It states on the 1911 census they have been married 6 years with 2 live children. The gro have no record of a birth of Matthew between 1895 and 1905, I know the last 2 children belong to Edward and Hannah, but I want to try and find out why he was on the 1901 as grandson. Any advise would be great or if anyone is going to the growould they be able to look up the index to see if they can find Matthew born 1901 anywhere in Ireland. Thanks Julie

    3. Julie, I can think of 3 reasons why Matthew might be with the grandparents: 1. Edward is married to his first wife and living somewhere else but Matthew is staying [the night?/the week?] at his grandmother's. 2. Edward is widowed and working somewhere else and his son is put with his grandparents. 3. Matthew is illegitimate and Edward has accepted responsibilty. In this case he may well have been baptised under the woman's surname and may have a different Christian name. Remember also that not everyone always registered their children's birth's but sometimes just had them baptised with the church. I would write to the local parish priest and ask if Edward was the father of ANY children at the time you think Matthew was born.
