I am enjoying hearing about all the trips to Ireland. Thank you all so much for sharing your experiences with me (and the group)... I will be mighty disappointed if I don't find any good, lively pubs filled with wonderful music. I'll sure be asking everyone I see. Glad to hear that driving wasn't too much of a trama....that is definately my biggest worry. We pick up the car at the Dublin airport and will make our way to Knocktopher Abbey just south of Killkenny City. About an hour and a half, I think... Then we have to be in Clonmel for church the next morning..... My husband makes me nervous here.......I can only imagine... I'll be sending you all a note when I get back telling you about my nervous breakdown.... I'm starting to feel more relaxed about the trip and realizing that I need to enjoy the trip and enjoy being there more than I need to worry about which library to go to. If I find more family info, Good....but if not, I will have been as close to them as I can get. Thank you all for your help... Donna
Whomever is driving should keep repeating to themselves like a mantra, "Drive left, Look right." This is what our driver did on a recent trip and it turned out fine. A comfortable driving experience. Of course, she had experience driving there. On 3 trips to Ireland, the only place where I found trad music in a pub was in Doolin, Co. Clare in 1991. Everyplace we went on subsequent trips, they would tell us we just missed it the night before or something like that. Have fun. -----Original Message----- From: irl-tipperary-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:irl-tipperary-bounces@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Donna and Mike Griffin Sent: Thursday, October 05, 2006 9:20 AM To: irl-tipperary@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [IRL-TIP] IRL-TIPPERARY Digest, Vol 1, Issue 24 I am enjoying hearing about all the trips to Ireland. Hi Donna, I made that trip back in May, by myself. I also picked up a car at Dublin and made my way south-west to Cahir in Tipperary. The first hour was taken up with road works, etc, so if you are going that way, you may have to allow a little more time. You are far more orgainzed than I was. It didnt occur to me to ask for help before I went, so I had to settle for finding towns where the ancestors lived and taking pictures, but I did enjoy it, and it was good to have a car radio to listen to the talkback shows and get a "feel" for the place. The driving was easy, except when I tried to take a direct route from Cahir to Templetuohy instead of going back on the main road ! Oh well. It was nice to see the countryside. I enjoyed the shopping mall at the quays in Galway. I hope you have a lovely time.
