3-4-1819 Saturday night at about half past two, Nicholas Kelly and Thomas Carroll, were executed in front of the Waterford County Gaol, pursuant to their sentences at the late Assizes for that County, the former for stealing, on the 5th Dec. last, at Kilmacthomas, a mare bridle and saddle, the property of Edmund Cantwell, of Carrick-on-Suir, Esq. and the latter for stealing a cow, the property of Patrick Lonergan, near Cahir on the 1st of January. They both acknowledged their having participated in the offences for which they suffered, and evinced in their last moments the strongest appearance of penitence and resignation to their unhappy fate. John Power, and William Brien, for the murder of Michael Fleming, stewart of Mr. Grubb, at Clogheen, were hanged at Clonmel on the 26th ult. This murder was a case of the greatest atrocity, and a mode of punishment of the most appalling nature was resorted to, in order to strike terror by a dreadful example, the two offenders were ordered for execution by night, at the new drop in front of the Clonmel Gaol by torch light.
