Hi list I am trying to trace the family of Catherine Elizabeth Burke who was born in Tipperary, probably Thurles, in 1841. She died in 1945. She was a teacher and married a fellow called Zeno Sloan about 1867. For many years they taught in Dungannon. Indeed she continued teaching despite having nine children. Catherine's father, whose name I don't know, was also a teacher (her sons were named William, Richard, Isaac and James). Two eldest daughters are: Margaret Matilda and Mary. She may have had a younger brother who died young. Family rumour suggests that her grandfather (?) was called 'de Burg' and came from France.... Also that the family were originally Catholic but became Presbyterian over something to do with an intention to make Erse the language of ?elementary school instruction. Any pointers or suggestions as to how to proceed would help.
