Estelle The Kilmaine seen to the right of Killenaule on the map you linked is in Co Offaly just over the border of North Tipperary- the postal address is Kilmaine Clareen Birr Co Offaly. I think it could possibly have been referred to as Tipperary rather than Offaly in the early 1800's as I know the border between Offaly and Tipperary changed but am not sure when. You could post your message on the Rootsweb Co Tipperary list - Janet Crawford may be able to help more about border changes. The parish records could be in Birr in the diocese of Killaloe but I'm afraid their records only start in 1836 or so. Hope this is of use Clare ----- Original Message ----- From: "Estelle Daniels" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, April 25, 2009 10:24 AM Subject: [IRL-TIP] Kilmaine help please? > > Hello Listers, > > I was searching around for Killenaule, where my great grandmother was > reportedly born, on Multimap this afternoon. Estelle and Clare, Located at Clareen is the Monastic site of Seir Kieran. Clareen is known as an Island Parish. Its in the Diocese of Ossory. It is said that it was once possible for the Monks to travel by boat from Aghaboe Abbey located between Borris in Ossory and Ballacolla in Laois to Monastery at Seir Kieran. Part of Clareen possibly lies in Tipperary, near Roscrea.
