Whelan (Phelan), Keating, and Heffernan: Bansha, Barnlough, Carriganagh My grandfather, James Whelan (b. 1873) was the son of James Whelan and Honora Keating. They lived in the village of Bansha where James Whelan was a shopkeeper. Honora's father was a large farmer with farms in Barnlough and Carriganagh. James Whelan's parents were James Whelan and Alice Heffernan. (lots of Alices in the family) Ryan, Roche, Wallace, Crowe: Commonealine, Bahaga, Glengar, and Birchgrove. Lawrence Ryan (son of Francis Ryan and Margaret Crowe) married Johanna Roche (daughter of Michael Roche and Mary Wallace) in the Chapel of Doon in 1875.
