My Irish brick wall is: John Warren COWAN born ca 1841 in Nenagh, Tipperary. Parents were Edmund COWAN b. ca 1803 & Trephena CLARK. They came to Oxford Co, ON, Canada about 1852. No further Irish info on this family, except that one of Edmund Cowan's sisters may have married a William WARREN in the 1820s possibly in Tipperary. Would love to find more on Edmund & Trephena Cowan, John, and any of the rest of this family. Looking for information on Eliza Deeves born 1839 in Grange, Kilcooly. Emigrated to USA 1858 and died in USA 1919. Married Thomas Smeltzer in New York City 11/20/1878. Daughter of John Deeves d. 1870 and Jane Pearson 1803-1848. Sister of Richard Deeves b. 1837 and Stephen Deeves b. 1844, both also emigrating to New York. There are 2 Deeves gravestones in the old Palatine cemetery of the Kilcooly Church, barely readable. Does anyone know these, are they related to this Eliza, Richard, and Stephen? _______________________________________________________ Griffith's Valuation: http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Here is what I have found from Newcastle Parish & Four-Mile-Water baptismal records. First the information came from County Waterford Heritage Center and then when we visited Ireland, I found the actual records at the church: Parents are Michael Hally (b Newcastle) and Catherine English (b Grange). These are my ggg grandparents, through Edmund/Edward Hally. Transcribed from photos of pages from original parish book located at the church in Newcastle, County Tipperary, Ireland. My theory on the sponsors is that most are siblings of Michael Hally or Catherine English - no proof on that. The family emigrated between 1847 and 1851 eventually settling in and around Outagamie County, Wisconsin by 1855. They lived in NY somewhere to earn money to go to Wisconsin - but I haven't been able to find them in NY. Edward owned a grocery store in Neenah, WI. Thomas Hally became a ship captain on the Great Lakes. Their son Michael Hally moved on to Iowa in Cherokee County. John died on the ship coming over - family story. Two sons I have not found records for are Patrick (who according to a family story was killed in NY) and William (who remained in Ireland). David took over the family farm most of which now lies under Outagamie County Airport in Appleton, WI. I believe that the daughters all married farmers and I am still working on this part. I have found most in US census records for various years, including Michael and Catherine (parents) in 1860 and 1870. I think I have found some of the family in a ship's list, but not all.
