    3. Hi all , I have Margaret Reardon Married Thomas Kelly as it is spelt by a scribe from the Carrick- on Suir area or Ballynealle the Kelly's came from Fetherd Ned Kelly's territory .I believe there to be a relationship here to Ned's father Red Kelly. We can not conduct a D.N .A re the Kelly line here in Australia because a Y chromosome carried by a male can not be found. Mary Kelly daughter of the above absconded with James Comerford to Australia 1840. Before they left Ireland I have found a baptism for a child to them Illegitimate Bartholomew in St Mary's church Ballyneale Happy to participate in any DNA. Laraine in Oz >

    3. Hi Laraine, We've been in touch before but I did not realize your Margaret was from C-o-S area! It would be great if that Reardon turned out to be a mistranscription - or a "mishearing" ;-) - for Reddin. Although Reardon is generally believed to be a separate surname I've kept it on my list for just such a possibility! Is there any possibility of finding a brother or parents for Margaret, or have you given up on that brick wall by now? Have you seen her name in any other records which would carry enough weight to confirm it as definitely being Reardon? If so, I would expect any relationship would precede her by many years as my ancestor came from a literate family and it would take a fair bit for there to be any difference in spelling within his close family. We are so nitpicky about spelling that I was raised to believe the NS Reddens could not possibly be relatives simply because they use an e rather than an i. Turns out the original emigrant did spell it with an i and it was in later generations the e was used, to differentiate that family from some English Reddings in the area. Re the yDNA it would have to be a male descendant of one of her brothers who would be tested in order for us to determine any relationship. You've given me only the 2nd nibble as to there being any presence of Reddins in Carrick - the other being that a James Reddin had a dau baptized there in 1810. James and Margaret are both common given names in our family. Ballyneale is also a new possibility for me, so thanks for that too! Now the trick is to find extra hours in the day to get back to this!
