    2. Fergus V. Keyes C.Dir.
    3. Ann Burns; I would suggest that you check out our web site at www.stcolumban-irish.com . This site is dedicated to our Irish ancestors that arrived in Montreal, Quebec, Canada around 1830 and settled in St. Columban, Quebec - about 40 miles north west of the city - this village was almost an exclusive Irish Catholic community in the 1800's.. You will find a large number of both McGraths and Mahers in the church & census records on our site. My best guess is that my own great great grandfather Patrick Keyes (Keys) also came from Clough in Kilkenny (as a point of interest, on my recent visit to Ireland, the residents pronnounced the name as the village as "Clock"). And most of the early settlers seem to have come from Kilkenny and Tipperary. Many of these people stayed in St. Columban for a generation, and then moved west, including to Ottawa, or to the U.S. and a number of the settlers were also involved in the quarry business. So perhaps your McGrath / Maher ancestors spent some time in St. Columban before arriving in Ottawa.
