I have had a breakthrough with my search for descendants of John & Michael Seymour of Castletownarra, Tipperary who were transported to Tasmania in 1843. Some weeks back one of the many contributors to this list, gave a reminder about the County Tipperary site, as it had been some time since I looked at this site, I decided it was time to do so again. Scrolling through the surname list, I found Seymour, convicts Tasmania. An email address supplied. Sent a query off to the person known as kjs. The email bounced back, not to be daunted by this I posted a query to the Tasmanian Convicts mailing list asking if anyone knew of kjs. Next day I had a reply from a lady in Victoria AUS, who gave me the current email address of Kevin J Seymour. To my surprise when I had a reply from Kevin, he was in Tipperary looking for Seymours. Kevin is now back in Australia collating all that he found out about Seymours from Castletownarra. I have been waiting for over 10 years to find someone who is a descendant of John & Michael, the wait was worthwhile. I guess the moral of this tale is, never ever give up, chase every possible clue and one day you will have success. I have more hurdle and that is to find the connection between Kevin's Seymours and mine, were our ancestors brother, sons, cousins, uncles or nephews. Whether we do or not the chase has been worthwhile, the discovery of people and the places they came from and now live has all added to the Family History. Maggie Heffernan in Port Macquarie Apart from Seymours, looking for Bible, Buckley, Dwyer, Heffernan, Herrick, Irwin,Magrath/McGrath. Malone, Tierney all from County Tipperary
Good girl Maggie. I still think our Dwyer and Heffernan line is the same and I am now chasing Thomas Heffernan who came out on the Mangles, I think he could be the link to Michael who said he had a brother Thomas in the Colony.
