Maree, Chr is most likely Christopher but could be Christian as well. JUD is actually a valid name not a nickname (at least in the USA) but could also be short for JUDE, JUDAH, or JUDITH. Catty is likely to be Katy/Katie only spelled w/C short for Catherine/Katherine or some variant of that name Mie - kinda stumps me...there are recs in both USA and ENGLAND census records w/ this being given as a proper name. Nan, is the nickname for quite a few given names: Ann, Anna, Ellen, Nancy, Agnes, Nannie, etc Sometimes it is helpful to cross reference records found on ancestry with other sources for the same records. For instance, you might be able to find these birth records on IFHF (http://www.rootsireland.ie) OR on the LDS FamilySearch.org website. If you'll provide a little more info (surname, sex, DOB, parish if known), I'll try and pull these index recs up for you to see if we can unravel the "nicknames" vs "real names". Meath, Ireland ... Patt ... I would assume would be Patrick Mie ?? Jud ?? Chr ?? Catty ?? Nan ?? regards, Maree Larsen Hobart
Often shortened versions show the beginning of the name and a tiny last letter. I think this is Michael written MI and tiny l. Sometimes Michael is just Ml. Chris Little.House.Antiques wrote: > Mie - kinda stumps me...there are recs in both USA and ENGLAND

But this says it is primarily Scandinavian. I just saw a name on Ancestry of Miel. Probably still Michael, but I wondered what it was.
