Laraine, I am tracing my Kenny/Kenney family. In that line someone married a James Joseph Commeford, born in New York in 1929. His parentswere James Commeford and Nellie Seifried. Because this is a side line, I have no further information on the Commerfords. I was wondering if youhad ever come across this family. I think the Commerfords were from Tipperary.
Hi Laraine. Shirlee is the one doing the reardon family, hope she can help you, i was just answering as i have a lot on Tipperary as have been reserching in that area a lot of years, and print out any records i can find. Val
Mary, I am not able to access the book, it keeps recycling me saying there is a new Askaboutireland site, redirecting me endlessly. Is it possible this is a part of the site only available in Ireland? Or could you send me a link to the specific book page? I searched everything, and hen searched again. At first we thought the name was READDON because that s how it was recorded on Mary MCFALL'S Vic Death Reg by her son William ANTWELL. I had come across Mary MCFALL in the Vic Pioneer Index and one ay decided to search the Vic Probate Index and that is where everything tarted to fall into place. I went home that day and downloaded a whole lot f Vic BDM's and it all led to the name being REARDON. I have subscribed to the IRL-Tipperary list hoping to find more information n the REARDON/CANTWELL connection but also the SHANAHAN connection. illiam CANTWELL married Winifred STEPHENSON, the daughter of Matthew TEPHENSON and Winifred SHANAHAN. Mary CANTWELL (REARDON) immigrated to Australia from New York, USA, with son illiam after her daughter Kitty (Catherine) and husband John CANTWELL had ied on Long Island, New York. We initially thought it was because of ANTWELL family already in Australia but after some research found it was ecause some of her REARDON family had already immigrated to Australia. atrick REARDON might have been transported in the early 1830's to NSW. He arried Amelia LAYFIELD in 1841 and set up shop as a Shoemaker in Londsdale treet, Melbourne, and remained there till he died around 1872. In 1853 his other Mary REARDON and sister Catherine immigrated, I assume John REARDON nr had just passed away and as most of her family were already in Australia hey decided to follow. Mary REARDON Snr died in 1866. Catherine married ohn WIPER and died in 1874 aged 49 yrs old. I am now trying to find John REARDON Jnr. If he had immigrated to Australia s well he should be easy to find but if he remained in Ireland it could be tad difficult. Hi Val Thank you for replying to posting regarding Reardon Inglis Dwyer. I had previously done a lot of research for John Reardon the grandson in Victoria but not the son as he might have immigrated as well to Victoria I will have to do some further research. The good thing about Vic BDMs is the information they provide. Mary Reardon and her daughter Catherine were Assisted Immigrant passengers on the Bankers Daughter arriving in September of 1853 and in the Comments section actually stated that they were going to live with PatrickReardon who lived in Londsdale Street (Mary's son). Catherine married a John Wiper and only had one child in 1858, a daughter Mary Ann, who died the same year and Catherine died in 1874 aged 49 yrs old. To All Listers, http://mcgrathsearch.com/files/The%20Neighbors%20in%20Ireland%2012-05-11.pdf ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- The Neighbors in Ireland, by Michael F. McGraw and Clare Tuohy The Neighbors in Ireland opens a window that covers the Famine period in selected townlands of Moyaliff and Holycross parishes of Co. Tipperary. Most of the townlands studied are adjacent and their relatively small size allows the area to be truly described as a neighborhood. The Irish homesteads of the main families of Long, Fanning, Tuohy and McGrath were identified and described in detail. In the process the following were accomplished: q Methods were developed for the extraction of information from these records that allowed the tracking of individuals through the valuation data. q The migration paths of persons from the Irish neighborhood were determined. q New neighbors were found and relationships among these neighbors were explored. q An understanding of the environment, in which they lived and the choices that faced our ancestors, was developed in an attempt to answer the question: Why did they leave? The Field, House, Tenure and Cancelled Books, researched by one of the authors (Tuohy), contained a wealth of new source material. The analysis of that material provided a unique view into the lives of these ancestors during the Great Famine and as they were emerging from the famine. The information contained in the House Books was unique and priceless. They contained an inventory of every structure, on each farm, in every townland along with the dimensions of each structure, the materials of construction and their state of maintenance. It is possible to use the Griffith Valuation maps, with the information in the House Books, to develop a mental picture of these buildings. That is about as close as one is going to get to having a photograph of the ancestral homestead from that time period. This document was the result of a trans-Atlantic collaboration between Clare Tuohy, a Dublin, Ireland based researcher, who is descended from William Tuohy of Grange, Holycross parish, and myself, based in Austin, TX, who is descended from Michael McGrath of Moyaliff in Moyaliff parish.
Hi My great great grandmother was Bridget Keneally from Tipperary. We think Bridget immigrated in the 1840's and she married a Patrick Kinna in either Adelaide or Sydney (conflicting records). It has been said that Bridget was educated at the same place as the Priests in Tipperary. They settled in the Gippsland area and she died at the Hospital for the Insane, Kew, in 1909 supposedly aged 84 yrs. Still hoping I can find other Keneally family members who immigrated as well.
