Greetings from across the pond, Seeking information on ggg-grandfather John Hassett (c.1803-1806 poss. Eire- 1881 NY). Emigrated from Dublin 1849, barque Huma, arrived New York March 26, 1849. Arrived with children Ellen Hassett (1840 Ireland-1891 NY), Mary Hassett (1841 Ireland-1918 NY), John Jr (1843 Eire- 1919 NY), and little Catherine (1847 /Eire - 1849 at sea, 2 days before arrival). Immigration records spell the name Hasset. Arrived with Catharine Batterby/Battersby (1800 poss. Eire- 1871 NY). I'm told there is no record of their being married but additionally, her age at the birth of the children was 40, 41, 43, & 47. Though not unheard of, I am surprised she didn't have any children before turning 40 years old, and 47 is awfully old to be giving birth. I question whether John Hassett had been previously married, she gave birth to the children and passed away in An Gorta Mor, and Catharine Batterby was either a second wife, a friend, a relative, or otherwise. Looking for information on any. I have been told this family is not of Blennerhasset origins. Thanks so much for your time. Sue
I'm looking for information about Jane Barber who was born in 1802 in Tipperary. She married John Robert Stanley probably in 1828. The information I have says that John Robert Stanley "moved to Modreeny Parish after marrying Jane Barber of that place, and worked as a servant in Cloughjordan village in 1828 and at Knocknacree in 1830. He emigrated to Montreal with his wife and four sons in the spring of 1830." I believe Jane's father was John Barber and that her mother might have been Ellen Minihan. I'm not very familar with Irish research so any help would be appreciated. Jane's baptism and marriage must be part of the parish records for Modreeny - how would I find copies? Is anyone else researching this family? Many thanks, Elizabeth B.C. Canada

Hi all, Can anyone tell me how I can find some evidence of the Rawley family from Tipperary - births, marriages, deaths etc.? I have checked the IGI to no avail and have tried different spellings of their name - Rowley, Raleigh. The Rawleys left on Flora McDonald in 1855 as assisted immigrants to Tasmania. They were Ellen aged 50 (in 1855), Nancy, 25, Martin, 23, Robert, 18, Alley, 12, Joanna, 4 and an infant Thomas. After they arrived in Tasmania, I can only find evidence of Nancy and Joanna, the latter listed as being born in Tipperary in 1851. I can find no mention of the other members of the family in Australian records. Any assistance or info about this family would be much appreciated. Karen Dunham
Would any one on list know how I can contact Kay Vernon please. Laraine In Oz
The information on men who enlisted in the RIC can be so very important in finding out more about one of your ancestors. The only hint I had was that my ancestor was a "policeman" but when I found him in the RIC, it gave me his birth year and county, where his wife came from, and when he got married. So - thank for posting that roster. Heidi

Cindy, I can't download it now either, but found a roundabout way to do it. When you load the Ask about Ireland site, type Sheehan into the search box. Click on the second line on the left hand side, Sheehan:Nenagh and its neighbourhood, then click on the blue line over the cover of the book and it should download for you. Hi Val and Laraine Most of my research has been based in Australia. I searched everything, and then searched again. At first we thought the name was READDON because that is how it was recorded on Mary MCFALL'S Vic Death Reg by her son William CANTWELL. I had come across Mary MCFALL in the Vic Pioneer Index and one day decided to search the Vic Probate Index and that is where everything started to fall into place. I went home that day and downloaded a whole lot of Vic BDM's and it all led to the name being REARDON. I have subscribed to the IRL-Tipperary list hoping to find more information on the REARDON/CANTWELL connection but also the SHANAHAN connection. William CANTWELL married Winifred STEPHENSON, the daughter of Matthew STEPHENSON and Winifred SHANAHAN. Mary CANTWELL (REARDON) immigrated to Australia from New York, USA, with son William after her daughter Kitty (Catherine) and husband John CANTWELL had died on Long Island, New York. We initially thought it was because of CANTWELL family already in Australia but after some research found it was because some of her REARDON family had already immigrated to Australia. Patrick REARDON might have been transported in the early 1830's to NSW. He married Amelia LAYFIELD in 1841 and set up shop as a Shoemaker in Londsdale Street, Melbourne, and remained there till he died around 1872. In 1853 his mother Mary REARDON and sister Catherine immigrated, I assume John REARDON Snr had just passed away and as most of her family were already in Australia they decided to follow. Mary REARDON Snr died in 1866. Catherine married John WIPER and died in 1874 aged 49 yrs old. I am now trying to find John REARDON Jnr. If he had immigrated to Australia as well he should be easy to find but if he remained in Ireland it could be a tad difficult.
