    3. Most scams are pretty obvious and I don't like to clutter the lists up with scams and virus warnings. However a list member has received one of those Mr Rich Smith has died blah blah Get in touch with us blah blah. The odd part was it was a name she is researching, the message gave her last name and state. So, presumably a little research has gone into this. It is the kind of info someone could find online on message boards or in list archives. Just wanted you to be aware that it is a scam even if you know the name. No one representing a rich man, would contact anyone via email. :) No need to discuss this on list. I just wanted you to be aware this is "going around" and to delete anything like that. If you have questions, contact me Off List: chrisnina@gmail.com Thanks, Christina List Admin

    2. Hmmm! Interesting - if Isabella's son in law (John Donaldson) was a groom working for the Cardens. I guess I'll have to look through every one of the 364 pages of the book written by Arthur Carden to see if there's a picture of him in there. So far, I did find that a SAMUEL Donaldson had a home there, three people living in it (page 333), not sure what year that was. It's fun to find something new to do some research on! Thanks to everyone for their input. Heidi

    2. Elizabeth Abbott
    3. I have occasionally posted questions to this list hoping to find any information about my Barber family, specifically John Barber who was born in Tipperary in 1782 but came to Canada in 1837. John had at least two marriages (1) Ellen Minahan and (2) Mary Rivington. John Barber and Mary Rivington's first three children - Richard (b. 1831), Eliza (1832) and Catherine (b. 1834) were all born in Tipperary. Ancestry's Irish Records Extraction Database shows that Eliza was born in Cloughjordan, baptized in Modreenyand that Catherine was born in Burnwood and baptized in Modreeny. >From a previous marriage, John's daughter Jane was baptised in Modreeny Parish in 1802 and she married John Robert Stanley also in Modreeny. Because I haven't had any response so far regarding the Barber family, could I try another approach. How and where can I find the Parish records for Modreeny? A recent posting suggests that a visit to Ireland is a good choice to further your research. However even if this were possible, it still leaves me wondering where these records are kept and how to access them. Thanks for any help, Elizabeth

    1. Re: [IRL-TIP] Renison

    3. Like you, the vast majority of posters here are not actually in Ireland, and would likely only have access to the same sources you would, IFHF website, civil indexes freely available via the Mormon website, the census returns. Given the unusual nature of this surname in Ireland, my hunch is that no one here is familiar with it. I can tell you that the Irish Family History Foundation shows only 10 Renison births between 1807 and 1887, and none coming in Co. Tipperary. The surname is almot certainly a Protestant surname, and well over 50% of early Anglican parish registers had been stored for safekeeping in Dublin and became a casualty of the Irish Civil War. What it sounds like is that any record of your William went up in a puff of smoke, leaving you needing to access records in Ireland, such as land records, directories, etc that most posters here do not have access to. I can tell you, I rather suspect that your man was probably from somewhere along the Tipperary/Offaly border, as in the Tithe Applotments, I do find 2 Renison entries, William and James, in Shinrone, then identified as being in Co. Tipperary, today it is in Co. Offaly. This is dated 1823. Both these men would have been adults, so at least 21, and therefore old enough to be the parent of your man in the 1840s. Of course, both these men could equally have been 101 and with one foot in the grave, simply no way to tell from this record. By the time of the Primary Valuation, neither man appears. In Co. Tipperary, this was 1850. The only Renison in Co. Tipperary was Robert, in Loughkeen civil parish, which is near Nenagh town. I can further tell you that a John Renison was having children in Offaly in 1816, another John was having children in Kildare in 1842, and yet another John was having children in Antrim in 1867. a William was having children in Offaly in 1807 and 1836 (though given the time span, it probably was 2 different Williams) and a Robert was having children in Donegal in the 1880s. I do know that this Robert died in Donegal in 1919, so you should be able to find him in census returns. Civil records do show a Michael Renison having children in the Parsonstown district (Birr today) in the 1865-1882 time period. Michael was married to Ellen Read. You ight also wish to track a Sarah Renison, who married Joseph Burgoine in that Nenagh area in 1850, on the chance that, coming from Tipperary, she is somehow related to your man. I would also suggest you consider getting copies of the Renison death certificates from that immediate area, again all coming in Parsonstown, to see who might be the informant. That would be Robert who died in 1881 aged abpit 84, Elizabeth who died in 1866 aged about 73, and William who died in 1870 aged about 60. Additionally, I can tell you that the parents of the Salinas, CA man are believed to be Robert Renison and his wife Jane, though it appears that no one is certain where in Ireland they came from and I'd be a bit suspicious of dates associated in Ancestry trees for Robert unless you are able to verify them independently. It appears that no one with a public Ancestry tree for a Renison from Ireland in this 19th century time period is absolutely certain where their person was from, though some with private trees do list Birr and Tipperary as their origins. Beyond this, you may be stuck with hiring a professional researcher based in Ireland, or taking a trip to Ireland yourself (always the preferable choice to me!) to get much further along in the research. Sorry. 3. I have temporarily put the lists I admin on moderated status. This is so I can prevent a second instance, which sometimes follows a phishing episode. Pete was on most Irish lists, so beware of this on all lists. Moderated Status just means mail has to be approved and may take a tad longer. The only one of my lists that didn't get hit, had already be moderated due to two bad emails in two days. When these things happen, there is no need to comment. The less said the better. Spam and phishing are just a part of life these days. Just don't click on an email link without knowing what it is. If you have any comments or questions...as always - write to me OFF list. I should be able to return the list to normal tomorrow. Please continue to discuss genealogy as usual. :) Christina List admin chrisnina@gmail.com

My ggggrandfather's family lived in Pallasgreen area early 1800's. There were 7 brothers that we know of, due to a small hand-written note left by one brother's (James) grand-daughter taking notes dictated by her mother Catherine Louisa Ryan, daughter of this James Ryan. As Catherine's daughter was born in NY 1850, this note was written after Catherine left Ireland & before Catherine died in Chicago (1848-1897). We know that one of the brothers,  (1)James Ryan,  married Bridget Hayes (date unknown), and their first child Michael was born at Kilduff Castle farm, Pallasgrean, 7 Sept 1823. Sponsors were Michael Ryan, brother of James, the child's father, and Bridget Hickey.  The other brothers listed on the slip of paper that miraculously was recently found were (1 James Ryan, mentioned above; initially at Kilduff, later Dromalty, Cappamore) 2. Michael Ryan, Kilduff Castle 3. Daniel Ryan, Corelish 4.Maurice Ryan, Corelish 5.Matthew (Matt) Ryan, Brackyle 6.Jeremiah (Jerry) Ryan, Dromalty (Dromalta) 7. First wife Bridget Hayes dies shortly after birthing her last son (1839), and James Ryan remarries an unknown woman.  Nothing known of Michael Ryan. I believe descendants of Daniel Ryan are still in Corelish, on the original farm.   Nothing is known of Maurice Ryan.   Matt Ryan is said to have had a daughter Mary Ryan, who may have been born 1820's, as she was a contemporary cousin to my gggrandmother Catherine Louisa Ryan (born 1828). Mary's married name was Mary Hayes & she had a son William, both of whom were in NYC in later 1800's, visiting Catherine & family (journal entries). William Hayes was working for a NY newspaper at the time. Matt Ryan may have taken over the family farm at Kilduff, later owned by Dillon family.   Nothing is known of Jeremiah Ryan.   Nothing is known of Philip Ryan.   I'm hoping to find information on Michael, Maurice, Matthew, Jeremiah & Philip, who were all in Pallasgreen area in mid-1800's.
