Thanks for your reply. I wish I had more information. I just have initials and the last name coming to Baltimore Maryland in 1822. I have inquired at the heritage center in Tipperary and was told the same thing. I need more information - I am going to start looking at the Catholic Churchs in Baltimore City and see if I can find any information on a P. or J. Meagher in the early 1800's. I have information on a John Meagher in the 1880 census in Baltimore which indicates he was born about 1840 in Baltimore. I'll just keep looking. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Ndhockey49112@aol.com> To: <IRL-TIPPERARY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 11, 2006 7:31 AM Subject: [TIP] Parishes > Linda, there are dozens and dozens of parishes in Tipperary, close to 100 > or > more civil parishes, and that doesn't even address the church parishes. > It > would help if you could give us a better idea of where in Tipperary or a > time > period. Hi Dale, Yes, I believe that is the place in Ireland - taking the old Irish accent and probably a certain amount of illiteracy into account. Bridget DUNNE was a maiden name (or at least pre-marriage to Patrick Bryan) in my ancestor's case. Kilmain is another story. From what I can work out and have been told, it may be an RC Parish in County Mayo. I just have a Death Certificate that Mary NAIL was born in Kilmain, Tipperary, Ireland. Her daughter that was born in "Killenaule" was the informant, so being Irish one would think she would have known something. Any ideas from over there. Are you on a geneaological holiday - or working over there? Temperatures have been over 40deg here and extremely dry, though I believe it has rained fairly extensively in the north the last couple of days. Wish we could get some. Would appreciate any thoughts on Kilmain. Tom, Thanks for the research tip. I'll try that. Subject to getting some useful information beforehand, we'll be on tour in Ireland May/June this year. Some time ago you mentioned a forthcoming book on protestants in Ireland. I saw a review in the Spectator just before Christmas for "A new anatomy of Ireland: the Irish Protestants, 1649-1770", by Toby Barnard. Was that it? Thanks again Walter P.S. I decided not to modernise the pre-revision years in my records, but perhaps I ought to point that out on the web site. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom LaPorte" <tlaporte@mts.net> To: <IRL-TIPPERARY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 11, 2006 7:46 PM Subject: Re: [TIP] Clonmel research > Hello Walt > > Haven't talked to you in quite a while. > > I had great success with an inquiry directly to the St. Mary's Clonmel > church office where they have computerized all the parish records and will > generate a report for you of all b/m/d for a particular surname for a fee. > I had the Boles/Bowles report done for 40euros. Hello, I live in Central Queensland, Australia. I am new to the list and I am searching for my grandmothers family who came from Tipperary, Ireland. Her mother Ann Bridget BRYAN (b.c1857 d.1939) emigrated to Queensland, Australia, c1873 apparently with a family by the name of KELLY. Her father was Patrick BRYAN and her mother Mary NAIL (maybe NEIL or a variation) b.c1829 d.1897. Her mother subsequently joined her in Clermont, Q in 1883. They are both buried in the Clermont, Q Cemetery. Mary's parents were William NAIL and Bridget DUNNE. On her Death Certificate it is stated that she was also known as O'BRIEN. Ann married an Austrian - Paul(o) DAMIANOVICH at Copperfield near Clermont in 1879. He died in 1912 and she married Hugh McNALLY in 1919. Mary's birthplace is given as Kilnawl(e), Tipperary, Ireland. Ann's birthplace is given as Kilmain, Tipperary, Ireland. I would be interested to hear from anyone searching the same lines. I would also be interested if anyone has any hints or places to search indexes/records/emmigration lists, etc electronically. I am researching my mother's family. Mary Kelly (Kelley), daughter of James, born around 4 Feb 1845 allegedly in Tipperary. She married Michal Doran (born 1842) (date not known) according to the 1870 Pennsylvania census. I suspect the marriage was in County Tipperary prior to coming to their coming to Pennsylvania in or around 1868. Doran died and Mary later married my great grandfather, James A. Egan. According to Mary's obituary, both she and James were from Tipperary, neither town nor county designated. I am interested in any connection to Tipperary that can be pursued.
Having ancestry in Tipperary (CAREY) according to UK census data, I tried the Tipperary Heritage Centres without success. I now think it possible that I should be looking in Clonmel. As I understand it, Clonmel is in Tipperary county but is in the diocese of Waterford. Perhaps someone can confirm, or otherwise? I have made a number of attempts to contact the Waterford Heritage Centre http://www.iol.ie/~mnoc/index.html but they neither reply nor confirm receipt of email. Does anyone know if they are no longer operating, or of any alternative to get commissioned research done for Clonmel? Hello Walt Haven't talked to you in quite a while. I had great success with an inquiry directly to the St. Mary's Clonmel church office where they have computerized all the parish records and will generate a report for you of all b/m/d for a particular surname for a fee. I had the Boles/Bowles report done for 40euros. A real bargain for an extensive report. Contact information would be: oldstmaryschurchgenelogy@eircom.net By the way I checked you Watson site to see if anything was new and spotted one small error. You have Solomon Watson married Abigail BOWLES or BOLES of Ballintrane Co. Carlow on 1 March 1707. The Quaker registry gives that date as 3 I 1707 which is Mar. 3, 1707 to the Quakers. 3 I 1707 would be read as the third day of the first month of 1707 and the Quaker calender started in March not in January before 1752. So the 3rd day of March, 1707 and not 1 March 1707. So when is that trip to Ireland going to happen? Linda, there are dozens and dozens of parishes in Tipperary, close to 100 or more civil parishes, and that doesn't even address the church parishes. It would help if you could give us a better idea of where in Tipperary or a time period. To be honest, if it is after the advent of civil registration, I'd suggest you start with birth records. A good portion of Tipp is covered by the Cashel and Emly diocese and those records will only be available to you by going to the individual priest in the parish or through the Tipperary heritage center in Tipp town, and that will cost you. Email me if you have any questions, and I'll try to help you out. Cindy Wood
Good day all...I found this one while cleaning up my computer and had a fresh chuckle so I thought I'd pass along. Rather than send the song itself (over 2mb) I figured I'd send just a link to it so those that want can listen and those who don't haven't wasted time downloading it. It's on my website & it's perfectly safe for all ages - it's a song called 'I am my own Grandpa' by Ray Stevens. <http://www3.sympatico.ca/lmaccpr/Grandpa.mp3> http://www3.sympatico.ca/lmaccpr/Grandpa.mp3 While you're there, by all means check out the main site at http://www3.sympatico.ca/lmaccpr/ & if you click on the Genealogy link there's some links there someone might find interesting.
