I am researching the Hickey branch of our family, who mainly came from Rathogally, Newcastle, Clonmel. Margaret Anne Hickey was born in 1902 and died in Arizona in 1994. She married Joseph T Strubinger, a widower, 14 years her senior and a partner in a law firm. She is well documented as a lawyer, Civil Rights activist, feminist and business woman and a large collection of her papers are deposited at the University of Missouri, St Louis. I am trying to establish if she had any children of her own, who her brothers and sisters were, and to obtain some information on her Father, Charles L Hickey who was an interesting man in his own right. Margaret died at Tucson, Pima Arizona on December 7th 1994, and I would to hear from anyone with access to a copy of an obituary or other material on her, which might help to fill in some of the blanks. I Believe that the family were mainly based in Kansas city/ St Louis but Margaret would have retired to Arizona circa 1970. John in Galway researching Keating/Hickey/Keefe and Cantwell
Dear Pat, Please look at my roll call for a Mark GLEESON, which of course could be GLEASON. Do any of the names I quote ring a bell? Also, do you have the birth place, parents and or siblings of your Patrick so I can see if anything rings a bell for me also? GLEESON, Mark Lancelot, born circa 1840's Cashel?, Tipperary. Sister Johanna GLEESON said she was born in Gortavalla (Possibly Doon Parish) Limerick, circa 1833. May have been another brother, Malachi/Malachia, "who was said to have gone to Canada". Stated parents are Lanclot/Lancelot GLEESON (Occupation, Gentleman) & Bridget BURKE. Mark GLEESON was found as a Police Constable in Liverpool in the 1871 census as being aged 23 and from Cashel, Ireland. He is then next found on the ship "Aconcagua", arriving in Melbourne, Australia in 1879 as being 27 and "English". But, in an Emigrant's Aid Corporation, the same year, he quotes himself as again from Cashel in Ireland aged 27. He next turns up in New Norfolk, Tasmania, Australia; as being Mark LEESON, my great grandmother's Common Law husband (even though they said they were married in Melbourne in 1878, the year before he actually arrived in Australia. She already had a non- registered son, so presumably he was trying to make everything "respectable".) After arriving in Tasmania, he variously said he was born in Lancashire, Lincolnshire, Devonshire, and one of his daughters insisted he was born in Haselmere in Surrey, England. Anywhere, in fact, but Ireland. Anyone ever come across this family? Regards, Wynnette Ford, Formerly of Tasmania, now of Queensland, Australia. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. My Ancestor was John Ryan born in 1743 in Knockjack, Glenough, Rossmore. and his wife was Catherine Corbett born 1750. John Ryan and Catherine Corbett had children called John, Jeremiah and Patrick that we are sure of, also probably had two girls called Bridget and Ellen. All of these were born before 1797. Their son Jeremiah married Catherine Hogan round 1814. There is no record of Jeremiah and Catherines marriage in Rossmore so presume Catherine came from another Parish. Children of Jeremiah and Catherine. All baptized in Rossmore. The only ones of Jeremiah and Catherine's children that I have any info on, is Jeremiah born 20/3/1831, who married Margaret Ryan of Reagoulawn and owned Jerry Jacks Pub in Graffan, Anacarthy. Patrick born 30/1/1820 who married Bridget Kennedy from Foilacleara, near Doon. Co. Limerick. William 18/1/1829 who married a Widow called Feehan from Rathcannon, Holycross. Searching for information on John Fitzgibbons from Ballyporeen. His parents were James and Jane (Morgan) Fitzgibbons. He was born about 1863. Not sure when he immigrated to the U.S., but he married Johanna Bailey in Rockland, MA, in 1896. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who might have some background info on this family. Thanks, June
