Hi Kevin, Perhaps my Darby could be a brother to Mary, perhaps Darby Jr.? I have a film ordered from the Family Search website (LDS), of Terryglass Parish, did you know their registers were filmed? I'll keep an eye out for Mary and John Young. Film was just ordered so it will be a few weeks, but I'll let you know. I am searching into the origins of Michael Corbett, Catherine Kennedy, and Eleanor Meagher in Nenagh and its nearby area. Michael Corbett and Catherine Kennedy were a married couple who immigrated from County Tipperary to the United State [abt. 1818-1819]. Prior to their immigration, they had several children born in Ireland [Mary, Timothy, and Ellen - also possibly Michael]. They were Roman Catholic. Following immigration, the family lived in the area of Baltimore, Maryland in a suburban neighborhood called Pikesville where Michael Corbett was a career soldier in the U.S. Army [with a designation as a "wagoneer"]. Church records indicate that Catherine Kennedy [b. abt. 1787] was the daughter of Patrick Kennedy and Eleanor Maher [Meagher] of Nenagh town. Patrick Kennedy is known to have been a grocer who had a shop on Barrack Street in Nenagh. The father of this Patrick Kennedy was Roger Kennedy who lived in Knigh. A brother to Catherine Kennedy was also named Patrick Kennedy [b. 1786] He became a Catholic priest, eventually serving as Bishop of Killaloe Diocese [1836-1850]. Other Kennedy siblings were John, Rody, Thomas, and Eleanor. Rody lived in Birr. Thomas became a priest. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also I am searching for the origins of Michael Corbett - husband of Catherine Kennedy. He is known to have been Roman Catholic. His gravestone and obituary show his birth in County Tipperary in 1788. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also I am searching for the origins of Eleanor Maher [Meagher] who married Patrick Kennedy [the grocer]. Hi Mary Thanks for your information. Martin and Margaret were in Canada, Montreal, in the late 1850's early 60's, two of their children were born there, but came back to England. I have found them in the 1871 census and 1881 census in Manchester and they give their place of birth as Tipperary, Ireland in the 1871 return. From information provided by Ted Meehan, after the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, the widow of Christopher the O'Meighan, (who was "run through" at that battle), Margarita (nee O'Reilly) O'Meighan, acquired a farm/townland called Kilcoran in the Tubbrid parish of County Tipperary and went there with her three youngest children. Her older boys, (13 and 15) who were also at the battle of the Boyne, went to France. The son of one of them was Guilaume (William) de Mehegan (1721-1766), a learned and colorful French writer who even spent some time in the Bastille for his opinions. After Guilaume's death in 1766, his young widow, Charlotte Therese Boitel Mehigan, and their infant son Jean Joseph (John Joseph) came to Ireland and settled at Kilcoran. From information provided me by the Mallow Heritage Center the following Mehigans were married, baptized, or were a witness in the Roman Catholic Church in Castletownroche in County Cork, less than twenty miles from Kilcoran. John Joseph (my grandfather) - born 1867 - baptism sponsor William Mihigan Garret (my g-grandfather) - born 1837 Daniel (my gg-grandfather) - married Judith Murphy 1837 Robert - witness to marriage of William Joyce and Margaret Scully - 1823 I am seeking links between the Mehigans of Kilcoran and Castletownroche, especially given the name of my grandfather and his baptism sponsor. I am particularly looking for the ancestors of 1867 baptism sponsor William Mihigan and 1823 wedding witness Robert Mehigan, as well as the parents of Daniel Mehigan. One possibility I received from the Mallow center and another source is that Daniel was baptized in Killavullen parish on January 5, 1812 and is the son of Daniel Mehegon and Mary Magner, sponsors Thomas Clancy and Mary Coningham. I am also interested in any histories of the Tubbrid area and the Roman Catholic parishes in the area. Many thanks for your assistance. Bob Meehan Dunwoody (Atlanta) Georgia USA

Hi everyone, I am looking for any info on Denis Hogan transported to Aus. I am afraid I have very little info on this man. Kind regards Leanne Baulch Canberra Aus
Charles Hickey was born circa 1860 near Clonmel Co Tipperary. As far as I can establish he went to the US quite young and managed to obtain a University education, possibly at the University of Kansas. He later entered the foreign service where he served in posts in Europe and the, then, Ottoman Empire. He met his future wife, 20 years his junior in Paris and they married about 1900. The family returned to Kansas City just before the outbreak of the First World War and Elizabeth became active in Feminist and Civil Rights movements. They seem to have had four children, the eldest of which died in infancy. Their daughter, Margaret, became very well known but I can find no additional information on Charles and Elizabeth. I would love to get some more leads, and perhaps some of the more experienced researches on the list, might have some ideas. Researching from Ireland into the US seems to be much more difficult than in the opposite direction. Hopeful John H researching Keating, Hickey, Keefe and Cantwell of Clonmel
Hello, My Roll Call includes - James MONAHAN b/ c1825 in Cahir, Co. Tipp. Ann BURKE b/c1827 in Co. Tipp. f/ Thomas BURKE, shoemaker, & m/ Bridget HICKEY. Christine Walsh - Melbourne, Australia
Ellen Hickey was born in Clonmel circa 1867, the twin of Patrick (later Fr Pat) Hickey. She was one of eleven children of Michael Hickey and Bridget Long of Rathogally, Newcastle, Clonmel. Like her brothers Charles and James, she seems to have settled in Kansas City. I found an Ellen Zufelt returning to the US from Liverpool through Ellis Island in 1912, who gave an address at 613 Prospect Avenue, Kansas City. In correspondence home in 1926 she is at the "City Hardware and Paint Co Inc., 2532 Independence Avenue, where her husband C.W. Zufelt is Manager. I would love to learn more of Ellen, particularly if she had children, when and where she died and is buried and any details of her siblings in the USA. any inputs would be gratefully received. Sincerely John H in Galway
Hi! Well, it was worth a try. As far as I know, none of my family settled in Canada, though most of them came from Co. Tipperary originally. Good luck to you.... Mary
Cathy, I saw your post regarding the Morrissey clan from County Tipperary Surname Registry. My 3x gr grandfather was Joseph Morrissey was supposedly from Limerick. A picture my sister has from my mother, which was taken in St. John's, Newfoundland in the 1800's, has a note on the back. The note says that Joseph was from County Limerick, while his wife, Ellen Kearney, was from County Kilkenny. Joseph, according to family history, was the brother of the infamous John Morrissey of New York. John was immortalized in the movie "Gangs of New York", where Leo Di Caprio plays uncle John. However, according to history, John was 6'0" tall and weighed 350 pounds and all the knuckles in both hands were broken. John was a 2-time World Champion bare knuckle boxer, a 2 term New York state senator, and a 2 term Congressman from the state of New York. He was also an enforcer for the Tamany Hall bosses. Not too miscast, I would say. The problem with Joseph and John's birth is that, according to family history, Joseph was from Limerick, but John was from Templemore, Tipperary, according to his bio. Joseph also had a son named John (my 2x gr grandfather). He was born in St. John's, Newfoundland. Any connection? Hi Robyn, I have a little mystery about 1680 on the Quillinan's. Denis Cullenane of "Cos" [pronounced and now spelled Cush] Co. Limerick was said to be shepherd to Mr. Charles Benet. Two problems with that: First I doubt he was really a shepherd and maybe more likely a priest on the run, and second, talking to the people at Cush, Benet didn't have any lands at Cush or anywhere near there that anyone has ever heard about. That doesn't mean Benet didn't and it could be there just isn't a memory, but most of the lands at Cush were common land. So that is the mystery and why I asked about the Limerick set. Anything you can share about where the Bennett's might have been in Limerick in earlier times might help.
